Opening mid-May in the heart of New York City, our restaurant will fuse tradition with innovation—serving elevated dishes inspired by the African diaspora, Caribbean islands, and the spice-laden street markets that define them. At LÉLÉ, we aim to honor heritage, tell stories through food, and create a space where culture and community meet on every plate.

Position: Pastry Cook

Position Summary
LÉLÉ is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Pastry Cook to join our opening team. You’ll be responsible for preparing a range of desserts that reflect the rich and diverse flavors of Afro-Caribbean cuisine—from tropical fruit tarts and spice-kissed cakes to innovative twists on traditional sweets. This role is perfect for someone with strong pastry fundamentals, a creative edge, and a genuine interest in culturally rooted cuisine.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and plate a variety of desserts and baked goods with consistency and care

  • Execute recipes developed by the Pastry Chef, ensuring quality and presentation standards

  • Assist with prep, production, and service for daily dessert offerings

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary pastry station

  • Ensure proper storage and labeling of all pastry ingredients and finished products

  • Support pastry prep for special events and seasonal menu changes

  • Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times

  • Be open to learning and exploring new ingredients, techniques, and cultural traditions

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of professional pastry or baking experience

  • Strong interest in Afro-Caribbean ingredients and culinary heritage

  • Familiarity with basic baking techniques and plated dessert presentation

  • Attention to detail, time management, and a positive team attitude

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment

  • NYC Food Handler’s Certification (or willingness to obtain before opening)
