56709 is a Cocktail + Vinyl Record Bar inspired by Japanese City Pop, located in Long Island City, NY.
56709 is the sister bar to 929 and a continuation of its mission—celebrating music, cocktails, and Asian pop culture. This new concept centers on Japanese pop music, a genre that has profoundly influenced Mando-pop and Canto-pop since the 1970s. We aim to spotlight a variety of Japanese music, with Japanese City Pop as the lead, along with 90s and 2000s J-pop, Japanese R&B, and the vibrant pop culture of the Showa and Heisei eras. Our cocktails, inspired by Japanese ingredients, are each named after a Japanese pop icon whose personality and music inspired their creation. 56709 continues 929’s mission: building community through cocktails and a shared love for Asian pop culture.
This is a full-time on-site role for a Bar Manager at 56709 in Long Island City, NY. The bar manager is responsible for day-to-day operations, inventory, staff management, customer service, and menu creation.
Responsibilities
- Provide the highest levels of organization and hospitality to guests at all times, without exception
- Maintain the integrity of service and proactively communicate with managing partners to address any potential negative experiences
- Manage bartenders, servers, hosts, and kitchen staff to ensure guests receive prompt and courteous service and floor staff to adhere to conduct requirements as per SOPs
- Responsible for creating weekly staff schedule, hosting regular staff meeting, and one-on-one check-in with staff, and partaking in staff hiring process
- Facilitate communication between kitchen staff and bar staff
- Adheres to proper alcohol handling, sanitation, and safety procedures and maintains/implements proper dating, labeling, and rotation of all beverage items in compliance with food and beverage hygiene policies and procedures.
- Coordinate daily supply inventory for the bar by administering purchasing and receiving procedures
- Manage and implement workflow & structure behind the bar, service standard, and inventory system
- Conduct weekly inventory check-in in all areas, including walk-in fridge, liquor shelf, dry goods, and all prep ingredients
- Ensure smooth operation of bar services from quality control of food & beverage to general atmosphere & customer service of the bar
- Responsible for completing all paperwork requirements at the end of the shift, including cash drops and check drops
- Manage and direct creations and R&D of all seasonal, holiday, and theme drink menus in collaboration with bartenders and managing partners
- Constantly analyze the alcoholic beverage business trends to bring in spirits for inventory
- Structure and implement opening & closing procedure
- Manage & conduct interviews & training of new staff and create training materials in collaboration with partners
- Implement loss/risk prevention by analyzing sales to determine the amount of batching and inventory overall
- Oversee the process of batching house signature cocktails
- Engage with guests and colleagues in a professional and dignified manner
- Uphold 56709's goal and mission statement, promote 56709's culture, and always positively represent the brand
- Complete any other task assigned by the managing partners as required in a timely and professional manner
Qualifications
- Resume and proven working experience as a bartender and a bar manager for at least 5 years
- Ability to manage staff, service flow, and inventory system for a high-volume restaurant/bar
- High school or equivalent education is required
- Professional knowledge of spirits and cocktail
- Excellent knowledge of mixing, garnishing, and serving drinks
- Full awareness of DOH compliance (NYC DOHMH); shall also act as walk-through liaison while DOH is on property
- Punctuality: Adherence to posted schedule and arrival time and attendance at mandatory meetings
- Responsibility: Personal comportment in line with 929’s policies, standards, and expectations
- Extensive knowledge of Toast (POS System) and Resy (Reservations System)
- Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Can handle the pressure of a high-volume, high-energy venue
- Guest service oriented
- Positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and management skills
- NY Food Protection Certificate is required
- NY ATAP Certificate is preferred
- Knowledge of Asian ingredients is a plus
- Knowledge of Japanese and/or Mandarin and/or Cantonese is a plus
- Knowledge of vinyl records is a plus
Compensation Details
Compensation: Salary ($60,000.00 - $75,000.00)
