Position: Sushi Server
Reporting to: Sushi Head Chef
Summary of Position: Responsible for serving sushi at the bar area. Provide friendly, gracious, detail-oriented service to create a memorable dining experience.
- Serve restaurant guests at the bar section of the restaurant, take orders, present/serve sushi, explain the menu, ensure the 5-star restaurant experience.
- Interact with guests at the omakase bar, and complying with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards.
Primary Functions:
- To serve as a Gansevoort Hotel Group Brand Ambassador and maintain integrity of brand standards and goals.
- Establish and maintain standards of a 5-star service.
- Help patrons select food and beverages by presenting menu; offering cocktails and aperitifs; suggesting courses; explaining the chef's specialties; identifying appropriate wines; answering food preparation questions.
- Serve orders by picking up and delivering patrons' choices from bar and kitchen, delivering accompaniments and condiments from service bars.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Prepare room for dining by clothing tables and setting decorations, condiments, candles, napkins, service plates, and utensils.
- Protects establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcohol beverage control policies.
- Take food orders from patrons. Transmits orders to bar and kitchen by recording patrons' choices, identifying patrons' special dietary needs and special requests.
- Keeps kitchen staff informed by noting timing of meal progression.
- Respond to additional patron requirements by inquiring of needs, observing dining process.
- Maintain table setting by removing courses as completed; replenishing utensils; refilling water glasses; being alert to patron spills or other special needs.
- Conclude dining experience by acknowledging choice of restaurant, inviting patrons to return.
- Deal with complaints or problems with a positive attitude. Promptly address customer service issues and refer customers to management when necessary.
- Stay updated on current menu choices, specialties and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen staff is running out of any items, etc.
- Properly open and pour wine at the tableside.
- Obtains revenues by totaling charges; issuing bill; accepting payment; delivering bill and payment to host person; returning change or credit card and signature slip to patrons.
- Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor.
- Fill in for absent staff as needed.
- Assist with special events as needed.
- Update job knowledge by participating in staff training opportunities.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Responsible for proper cash tip distribution to support staff (runners, bussers etc.) and completing necessary paperwork.
- Complete necessary shift closing procedures.
- Perform other duties as requested by Management
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Customer Service Skills and Communication Skills: you will need to listen to guests needs, provide superb service and communicate in a friendly manner to all requests.
- Good listening skills.
- English language fluency.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Ability to function in a noisy, hectic and crowed environment.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to handle guests’ complaints.
- Attention to cleanliness and safety.
- Food safety training is a plus.
- Hands on experience in cashiering duties.
- Responsible & trustworthy.

- Neat and clean appearance.
- Stamina: you will spend the majority of time on your feet and will have to lift heavy objects.
- Flexible to work schedules to include morning/evenings/night, as well as weekends and holidays.
- Being a team player and ability to successfully pass on information from one team member to another.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to be standing/mobile/stationary for at least 7 hours a day, 35 hours a week.
- Periodically fast paced strides are required to go from one part of property to other.
- Must regularly lift/carry/move 30 pounds of force.
- Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands.
- Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch and climb are required.
