Position: Expeditor
Reporting to: Head of Culinary
Summary of Position: Food expeditors communicate orders and information between the front of house and back of house, making sure that food is cooked in the right order, quickly, and presented to the customer as beautifully as possible.
Expeditors make sure the orders are being cooked in a timely fashion, so that all orders for a table are ready at the same time and make sure that once the food is cooked, servers run food to the table while it's warm and ready. They explain special orders to the cooks and tell servers when the kitchen is out of a particular menu item.
Primary Functions:
- To serve as a Gansevoort Hotel Group Brand Ambassador and maintain integrity of brand standards and goals.
- To always uphold and comply with Coyle Standards and Gansevoort Core Values.
- Establish and maintain standards of a 5-star service.
- Ensuring communication in the kitchen by calling out orders, getting the status on dishes, and calling the waitstaff to serve completed dishes.
- Informing the waitstaff when certain dishes or ingredients have run out and passing food requests from the waitstaff to the kitchen.
- Monitoring the food portions on completed dishes according to restaurant standards.
- Ensuring that all orders are completed on time and with the correct priority.
- Inspecting the cleanliness, presentation, and temperature of completed dishes.
- Performing the finishing touches to completed dishes, such as adding garnishes and removing smudges.
- Keeping the cooking, storage, and prep areas clean, neat, and well-stocked.
- Ensuring all staff adheres to health and safety standards.
- Assisting all staff as needed.
- Handling customer
- complaints on behalf of the kitchen staff and looking for solutions.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- 18 years old or older.
- Customer Service Skills.
- Communication Skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to function in a noisy, hectic and crowed environment.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Attention to cleanliness and safety.
- Responsible & trustworthy.
- Stamina: you will spend the majority of your time on your feet and will have to lift heavy objects.
- Flexible work schedules include morning/evenings/night, as well as weekends and holidays.
- Being a team player and ability to successfully pass on information from one team member to another.
- Good understanding of restaurant health and safety regulations.
- Food handling certification may be required.
- Relevant restaurant experience.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods, assist where needed, and carry heavy trays.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to be standing/mobile/stationary for at least 7 hours a day, 35 hours a week.
- Periodically fast paced strides are required to go from one part of property to other.
- Must regularly lift/carry/move 60 pounds of force.
- Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands.
- Occasionally kneeling, bending, crouch and climb is required.
