Job Overview:
A porter is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization in the restaurant, including dishwashing, trash removal, and restocking supplies, to ensure smooth kitchen and service operations.
General Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning duties in the kitchen, dining area, restrooms, and other spaces, including weekly deep cleaning tasks such as the ice machine.
- Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans using dishwashers or hand-washing methods.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen surfaces, equipment, and storage areas.
- Assist with scheduled deep cleaning tasks throughout the restaurant.
- Report maintenance issues or safety hazards to management promptly.
- Assist kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling, cutting, and cleaning produce.
- Ensure kitchen staff have necessary tools and equipment readily available for efficient operations.
- Receive, organize, and store food and kitchen supplies properly to maintain freshness and order.
- Restock dining areas and restrooms with supplies, including napkins, toilet paper, and hand soap.
- Manage trash and recycling, ensuring waste is sorted and disposed of according to policies and regulations.
- Consistently adhere to health and safety regulations to uphold high cleanliness standards.
Qualifications
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
- Basic understanding of sanitation and food safety practices.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, detail, and organization.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Basic English communication skills; bilingual a plus.
