Now Hiring: Captain for our Upscale French Bistrot Cenadou, sister restaurant to La Bastide by Andrea Calstier, elected Best French Bistrot in Westchester 2024 and 2025.
We are a small, family-owned upscale French bistrot known for our meticulous attention to detail, excellent cuisine and exceptional guest experience. We’re seeking a dedicated and experienced Captain to lead our Front of House Team.
Compensation & Perks:
- $600/week base + tips (average $1,400/week)
- Fixed 5-day work week (Wednesday to Sunday)
- Dining discounts (20% at our Bistrot and Fine Dining restaurants)
- Paid time off after 1 year of service in the company
Key Responsibilities:
Front of House Leadership
- Lead daily FOH operations with professionalism and efficiency
- Ensure smooth guest flow and consistent high-level service from open to close
- Set and maintain service standards that reflect the Bistrot’s elevated dining experience
- Act as the face of the restaurant—greet and engage guests with warmth and knowledge
- Welcome all guests and seat them to their assigned table
Team Management
- Recruit, train, and mentor service staff in line with the bistrot’s expectations
- Conduct pre-service briefings to align the team on specials, guest count, special events and service notes
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to ensure staff development and performance
Guest Relations
- Cultivate strong relationships with guests, ensuring satisfaction and repeat visits
- Handle guest concerns and special requests with discretion and poise
- Maintain detailed awareness of regular guests’ preferences and needs
BOH Communication
- Act as the primary liaison between the kitchen and FOH to ensure accurate and timely service
- Communicate guest dietary restrictions, preferences, and pacing clearly to the BOH team
- Collaborate with chefs on menu changes and service enhancements
Reservations & Phone Management
- Manage phone lines and online reservations with professionalism and efficiency
- Monitor guest flow and optimize seating arrangements to enhance service and maximize capacity
- Record and communicate key guest notes (e.g. allergies, special occasions)
Product & Service Knowledge
- Maintain deep knowledge of French cuisine, wine, and spirits
- Train team on food descriptions and preparations
- Stay updated on seasonal menu changes and communicate them to the team
Facility Oversight & Standards
- Ensure the dining room is always impeccably clean, organized, and ready for service
- Monitor service equipment, glassware, and uniforms for cleanliness and functionality
- Help maintain compliance with health, safety, and liquor regulations
- Check menus for cleanliness and print daily as needed
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of wine, spirits, and French cuisine is a must
- Proven experience in a similar leadership role in fine dining
- A guest-first mentality and commitment to excellence
