NARO’s cuisine is deeply rooted in ‘Hansik,’ the essence of Korean culinary tradition. Through NARO, we aim to share the often underrepresented story of Korean cuisine abroad. The restaurant offers multi-course tasting menus and à la carte options, with a focus on subtle, delicate, vegetable-forward flavors, showcasing traditional techniques and seasonal ingredients.


Job Overview:

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Sommeliers with a strong work ethic and an endless curiosity to learn and grow with our restaurant. Our Sommeliers will work in conjunction with NARO leadership along with NA:EUN Hospitality Beverage Director, Jhonel Faelnar, in leading the NARO team in all beverage and service-related areas. This team member will provide assistance in maintaining the beverage program, providing continued education for our team, and demonstrating exemplary hospitality and beverage service to our guests. This is an ideal position for someone whose passion for wine is matched by their deep commitment to guest service & hospitality. 

This position offers a rate of $16 an hour plus tips.

Sommelier responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Beverage station setup/breakdown, maintaining stock of all beverages according to service needs, and ensuring the team is well-prepared to execute a successful service.
  • Responsible for serving guests and helping to orchestrate the flow of dining room service - Sommeliers at the NARO will be an integral part in curating a memorable dining experience for all our guests.
  • Having wine conversations of varying depths with our guests, guiding them through our list, in a polished and poised manner.
  • Work together with the service staff and kitchen leadership to conduct seamless and refined wine service for tables.
  • Assist with service needs while on the floor (e.g. running food, running beverages from bar, clearing and re-miseing tables, etc.).
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day needs of the beverage program (POS management, communicating ordering needs, stocking, menu updates, timely staff updates, etc.).
  • Assist with weekly inventory and ordering.
  • Maintain proper glassware inventory and breakage logs.
  • Assist with inventory audits at the close of each financial period.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of wine training for new hires and continued education for existing staff members - testing regularly to check for understanding and structuring classes and tastings to encourage high engagement levels.
  • Expected to be constantly growing, learning, and expanding their knowledge base.

Qualified Sommeliers must be energetic, enthusiastic, and have a great attitude, as well as:

  • At least 1 year of fine dining service experience (preferably in a Sommelier role)
  • Possess exceptional floor presence
  • Must be able to demonstrate an extensive depth of knowledge on wine
  • Skilled in impeccable wine service and sharing wine knowledge with guests and service staff
  • Ability to assist with ordering and inventory
  • Previous experience working as a floor sommelier is encouraged but not required assuming you can provide adequate working knowledge of our wine list
  • Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET, or similar certification programs are encouraged but not required
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Korean food & beverage is a plus but not required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs or a case of wine as needed
  • Stand and walk for an entire shift, including moving safely through all areas of the restaurant
