Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Pastry Sous Chef to assist in the creation and execution of innovative pastry dishes for our restaurant, drawing inspiration from Italian and Californian traditions. The ideal candidate will have strong pastry skills, leadership abilities, and a passion for consistent quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities
- Pastry Team Leadership: Assist the Executive Chef and Pastry Chef in leading the pastry team, ensuring efficient kitchen operations and maintaining high standards of quality and cleanliness.
- Menu Development: Contribute to the development of seasonal pastry menus, incorporating fresh ingredients and innovative techniques.
- Kitchen Operations: Oversee pastry production, including preparation, presentation, and plating of desserts.
- Quality Control: Ensure all pastry items meet the restaurant's standards for taste, presentation, and consistency.
- Team Management: Train and supervise pastry staff, fostering a positive and productive kitchen environment.

Requirements
- Experience: At least 4 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a fine dining or upscale casual restaurant setting.
- Skills: Strong pastry skills, including cake decorating, pastry making, and dessert preparation.
- Certifications: Culinary degree or equivalent experience.
- Communication: Excellent communication and leadership skills.

The West Village restaurant Barbuto has been a neighborhood gathering spot welcoming locals and visitors alike for over 15 years. Barbuto first opened its doors in February 2004 in its original location at Washington & Jane Streets, where it was truly a staple. After reopening in October 2021, the restaurant is well on its way to earning that status again in its new home at 113 Horatio Street at West Street, a mere three hundred steps from the original.

The name means “bearded” in Italian. When developing the concept, Jonathan and his business partner at the time Fabrizio Ferri both sported beards; so did Fabrizio’s Irish Wolfhound Gideon, who is immortalized in the logo. It just made sense.

At its heart, Barbuto is a casual restaurant offering Chef Jonathan Waxman’s celebrated Californian-Italian cuisine that is simple & seasonal.
