Position: Sushi Chef

Job Summary:

We seek a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have experience in preparing high-quality sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes while maintaining strict food safety and presentation standards. Creativity, precision, and a strong work ethic are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and assemble sushi, sashimi, nigiri, maki, and other Japanese dishes with precision and artistry.

  • Ensure all sushi ingredients are fresh, properly stored, and meet quality standards.

  • Maintain a clean and organized sushi station, following food safety and sanitation regulations.

  • Interact with customers at the sushi bar, providing recommendations and a welcoming dining experience.

  • Assist in inventory management, including ordering seafood and supplies as needed.

  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during service.

  • Stay updated on sushi trends and introduce new menu items when appropriate.

Requirements & Skills:
  • Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or Sushi Apprentice in a restaurant setting.

  • Knowledge of traditional and modern sushi techniques.

  • Ability to handle raw fish and other ingredients with care and precision.

  • Strong knife skills and attention to detail in food presentation.

  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards (ServSafe certification a plus).

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Formal training in sushi preparation or Japanese cuisine.

  • Experience working in a high-volume sushi restaurant or upscale dining establishment.

  • Creativity in developing new sushi rolls and specials.
