Job Details
Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC is looking for a Prep Cook. 

Responsible for preparing ingredients and setting up workstations for chefs in a restaurant or other food service setting. You will wash, chop, slice, and dice food items like vegetables, fruits, meats, and cheeses. Prep Cook will also maintain a clean and organized kitchen, follow prep lists created by chefs, and adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines. 
 
Key Responsibilities of a Prep Cook:

    • Ingredient Preparation:
      Washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, dicing, and portioning ingredients according to recipes or instructions. 
       
  • Workstation Setup:
    Preparing and organizing workstations with necessary ingredients, utensils, and equipment. 
     
  • Following Prep Lists:
    Adhering to instructions and guidelines provided by chefs, ensuring that all necessary ingredients are prepared in the correct quantities and manner. 
     
  • Kitchen Maintenance:
    Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen by cleaning up work areas, washing dishes, and sanitizing surfaces. 
     
  • Food Safety and Sanitation:
    Following all food safety and sanitation regulations and guidelines to ensure a clean and healthy environment. 
     
  • Basic Cooking:
    Performing basic cooking tasks like parboiling food or reducing sauces. 
     
  • Inventory Management:
    Assisting with inventory management by stocking and labeling ingredients. 
     
  • Teamwork:
    Collaborating with other kitchen staff members to ensure smooth kitchen operations. 
     
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Knife Skills: Proficiency in using knives to safely and efficiently cut, chop, and slice a variety of ingredients. 
     
  • Food Safety and Sanitation Knowledge: Understanding and adhering to food safety and sanitation regulations and guidelines. 
     
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle kitchen utensils and tools with precision and accuracy. 
     
  • Attention to Detail: Paying close attention to detail to ensure that ingredients are prepared correctly and according to recipes. 
     
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with other kitchen staff members in a fast-paced environment. 
     
  • Communication Skills: Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with other kitchen staff members. 
     
  • Basic Cooking Skills: Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and procedures. 

  • Flexible work schedules to include morning/evenings/night, as well as weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to be standing/mobile/stationary for at least 7 hours a day, 35 hours a week.
  • Periodically fast paced strides are required to go from one part of property to other.
  • Must regularly lift/carry/move 60 pounds of force.
  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands.
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch and climb are required.



Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($20.00 - $22.00)
