Job Details
The Sommelier is responsible for supporting the wine and beverage department. We aim to provide an easy and excellent service, educating, and recommending customers on wine choices and pairing, and ensuring standards are maintained and customer needs are anticipated.
Duties & Essential Functions:
• Recommends wines to patrons based on price, personal taste, and food selection.
• Oversees the serving and storage of wine and trains team members on the wine selection.
• Ensures wines are served in the correct glassware and at the proper temperature.
• Demonstrates a friendly personality, strong knowledge of wine and spirits, and great interpersonal skills.
• Possesses an expert understanding of region wine laws, appellations, grape varieties, harvest times, elevation, climate, soil, and fermentation processes.
Customer Service:
• Ensures that all customers receive the best possible service and care.
• Is confident in making recommendations.
• Maximizes sales opportunities but not at the expense of the guest having a great time.
• Works with restaurant staff to create a positive dining experience for guests.
• Greets customers and answers all questions.
• Alerts team members when tables need attention if they are not present assists them in helping with their tables.
• Has knowledge of the menu, with the ability to make suggestions.
• Ensures tables are enjoying their meals and takes action to correct any problems.
Department Responsibilities:
• Has a thorough knowledge of the wine menu.
• Is a professional, valued member of the team with a flexible approach to improving customer experience.
• Arrives at work for a scheduled shift and is punctual, always following company absence and lateness procedures if unable to do so.
• Ensures that all wine stock levels are maintained, and correct ordering procedures are carried out.
• Ensures the wine storage is always kept clean and tidy.
• Monitors standards and supply of all appropriate equipment, ensuring management team are aware of any needs.
• Ensures all wine lists are current and up to date with management
• Responsible for completing and maintaining monthly wine inventory
• Treats company property with due care and attention.
• Attends meetings / training sessions as required by the management team.
• Is fully aware of current legislation regarding hygiene, licensing laws, weights, and measures as they apply to the restaurant.
• Adheres to and maintains cleaning checklists.
• Can remain focused and on-task.
Experience:
• Sommelier: 2 years (Preferred)
• Upscale Fine Dining Service: 2 years (Required)
Education:
• High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
• Sommelier: 2 years (Preferred)
• Fine Dining: 3 years (Preferred)
• Inventory control: 1 years (Preferred)

Compensation Details
Compensation: Hourly ($20.00 - $22.00) plus tips
