LÉLÉ is a bold new culinary destination celebrating the vibrant, soulful flavors of Afro-Caribbean cuisine. Opening mid-May in the heart of New York City, our restaurant will fuse tradition with innovation—serving elevated dishes inspired by the African diaspora, Caribbean islands, and the spice-laden street markets that define them. At LÉLÉ, we aim to honor heritage, tell stories through food, and create a space where culture and community meet on every plate.
Position Summary
We are looking for a skilled, creative, and culturally curious Pastry Chef to lead our dessert and pastry program at LÉLÉ. From warm spices and tropical fruits to traditional sweets with a twist, the ideal candidate will craft a pastry menu that complements the bold, soulful nature of our cuisine. This is a unique opportunity to shape the sweet side of an exciting new concept and contribute to a story-driven dining experience rooted in Afro-Caribbean heritage.
Responsibilities

Design and execute an innovative dessert and pastry menu inspired by Afro-Caribbean flavors

Oversee all pastry production and plating during service

Collaborate with the Executive Chef on overall menu cohesion and seasonal specials

Train and manage pastry cooks or cross-trained line staff

Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and food safety

Manage inventory, ordering, and cost control for the pastry department

Explore new ingredients, plating techniques, and dessert trends while honoring cultural roots

Support special events, pre-opening tastings, and menu development sessions
Qualifications

3–5 years of pastry experience in a professional kitchen, with at least 1 year in a leadership role

Strong knowledge of or curiosity about Afro-Caribbean flavors and culinary traditions

Skilled in baking, plated desserts, and contemporary presentation techniques

Highly creative, detail-oriented, and organized

Ability to work calmly under pressure in a high-volume environment

NYC Food Handler’s Certification (or willingness to obtain before opening)
