Opening mid-May in the heart of New York City, our restaurant will fuse tradition with innovation—serving elevated dishes inspired by the African diaspora, Caribbean islands, and the spice-laden street markets that define them. At LÉLÉ, we aim to honor heritage, tell stories through food, and create a space where culture and community meet on every plate.

Position Summary
LÉLÉ is looking for an enthusiastic and driven Junior Sous Chef to join our opening kitchen team. As Junior Sous, you’ll play a hands-on role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the kitchen while learning and growing under the guidance of our Executive and Sous Chefs. This is a great opportunity for a talented line cook or Chef de Partie ready to take the next step in their culinary career within a supportive, high-energy environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Sous Chef and Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations

  • Lead and manage assigned stations during service with precision and consistency

  • Help train and guide line cooks and prep team to ensure proper technique and execution

  • Monitor food quality, portion control, and plating standards

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times

  • Assist with prep lists, ordering, inventory, and food waste control

  • Contribute ideas to menu development and specials with a collaborative spirit

  • Be a role model of professionalism, accountability, and teamwork in the kitchen

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of professional kitchen experience; leadership experience is a plus

  • Strong interest in Afro-Caribbean cuisine and culture (or a genuine desire to learn)

  • Solid knife skills, station management, and understanding of kitchen systems

  • Positive attitude, reliability, and eagerness to grow in a team setting

  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen

  • NYC Food Handler’s Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)

Compensation Details

Compensation: Salary ($65,000.00 - $70,000.00)
