We’re looking for an outstanding candidate to lead front of house operations for our Tex-Mex restaurant & cafe in Truxton Circle DC. Since our launch in 2019 we have won loyalty from guests for our warm service, whimsical offerings, and for providing a sense of place for our 'Texpat' customers.
We are seeking a General Manager to help us continue to refine our approach, offerings & systems. At a high level this role entails ownership of: excellent and delightful guest experiences; the smooth functioning of the restaurant; and continual building & growing the culture of our team
Specific responsibilities of the GM role entail:
- people management: scheduling, hiring, train/motivate/discipline/manage all FOH staff, support team on floor as needed, manage labor cost/takehome pay
- ops: oversee inventory/ordering for bar & paper goods, manage platforms (POS, table mgmt, etc), develop systems for open/close, cleanliness/sanitation, etc
- high level QC: generally act as the eyes & ears of guest experience, elicit & act on guest feedback, touch tables, recoveries
- creative input: we're looking for someone to deeply engrain themselves in the culture/soul of the place and participate in the creative process for introducing new bar, cafe & kitchen offerings
As an all-day operation, we are looking for someone who will ensure continuity between AM & PM service — though dinner service & brunch will be the core focus of the role. We have additional management support on staff, which affords some flexibility to craft the role. Anticipated time commitment is ~50 hr/wk.
Salary is in the $90-110k range, depending on experience. We offer 50% health insurance contributions, paid vacation and a performance-based bonus structure.
Experience managing front of house staff required; experience with bar or coffee valued. Please respond with a resume & description of the last great taco you ate.
About Republic Cantina:
During the morning we function as a cafe, serving up a simple, high-quality menu of breakfast tacos on housemade flour tortillas plus a full espresso program. In the evenings we transition into a restaurant serving up an ‘enlightened take’ on Tex-Mex, celebrating the beautiful hodgepodge that is Mexican food’s diaspora in Texas.
We have a loyal following of Texans with great pent-up excitement for the traditions of Tex-Mex, but we also like to explore outside the margins & call back to the many diverse cuisines of Texas. We offer an agave-centric bar program which first & foremost celebrates Texas's favorite cocktail — the margarita — but also seeks to introduce customers to unique/unusual agave spirits + also have some creative fun.
In addition to all the Texan focus at our core, we're also very much a cozy "neighborhood spot"; as the one of the few restaurants in Truxton Circle we have become a go-to spot for a coffee, a casual meal, or a beer after work for neighborhood folks and count many local regulars among our customer base
