Job Details
- Hewn, a nationally recognized and independently owned artisan bakery in Evanston (just north of Chicago), is seeking an experienced and dedicated Bread Baker to join our growing team.
- Produce high-quality artisan breads, including sourdough loaves, baguettes, and ciabatta, using commercial bread ovens.
- Perform all aspects of bread production: mixing, shaping, and scoring.
- Collaborate effectively with the bread and pastry teams.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of artisan bread baking experience in a retail and/or wholesale bakery, OR recent culinary graduate with relevant bread baking coursework. (Please do not apply if you lack this experience.)
- Proven experience using commercial bread ovens.
- Proficiency in mixing, shaping, and scoring sourdough, baguettes, ciabatta, and other bread types.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to producing consistent, high-quality work.
- Willingness to work weekends and early morning hours.
- ServSafe Food Handlers and Allergen certification (required).
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Experience with laminated doughs and brioche.

Compensation Details
Compensation: Hourly ($18.00 - $20.00) plus tips
