Rival Bros is currently seeking experienced and dedicated Cafe Managers for multiple locations!
The Cafe General Manager position is a collaborative, hands-on role, often working side by side with teammates and management. Ideal candidates bring their passion for coffee and hospitality to our growing, fast paced environment. Cafe General Managers are responsible for leading our teams, overseeing daily operations and managing staff on duty. They are committed to ensuring excellent guest service, exceptional product quality, and a welcoming cafe atmosphere. This role requires strong leadership skills, financial acumen, and the ability to cultivate a positive culture among staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following -
Leadership & Team Development:
- Recruit, train, develop, and onboard a high-performing team
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture with strong communication and accountability
- Lead by example while working side-by-side with your team
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff
- Create, implement, and monitor necessary SOPs for the cafe
Operations & Service Excellence:
- Oversee daily cafe operations
- Maintain high service standards, ensuring a consistently excellent guest experience
- Uphold quality assurance standards for all menu items
- Create staff schedule while focusing on labor costs to maximize efficiency
- Ensure smooth coordination between all positions in the cafe
- Manage inventory, ordering, and supplies related to all cafe operations
- Use a keen attention to detail to monitor all facets of cafe operations
Financial Management:
- Monitor budgets, sales, and expenses to meet financial goals
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive revenue and profitability
- Implement cost-control strategies without compromising quality
- Monitor sales and revenue, and implement strategies to maximize profitability
- Prepare reports on sales, labor, and other financial aspects as required
Guest Experience & Community Engagement:
- Act as the face of the store, engaging with guests and building a loyal customer base
- Handle guest feedback with professionalism and problem-solving skills
- Build relationships with the community to enhance brand presence
- Ensure all guests receive prompt and courteous service
- Monitor ambiance and service standards
Compliance & Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean guest facing environment at all times
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, labor laws, and company policies
- Have or obtain directly after hiring: City of Philadelphia Food Safety Certificate
- Oversee facility upkeep and coordinate with vendors as needed
- Uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards in all FOH & BOH areas
Communication:
- Strong communication skills are essential: coordinate with owners, managers, and staff to ensure smooth cafe operations
- Resolve guest and staff issues promptly
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience as a Cafe Manager or similar leadership role
- A guest-focused mindset with a passion for hospitality
- Strong knowledge of cafe operations
- Comprehensive knowledge of coffee origins, processes, preparation and brewing techniques
- Ability to coach, mentor, & develop hourly team members
- Self motivated, organized, and detail-oriented
- Knowledge of POS systems and restaurant management software
- Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and occasional high-stress environment
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Experience with financial management, including P&L oversight and budgeting
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- DOH Accreditation and/or ServSafe Certified is a plus!
Expectations:
- Attend working shifts on time and in accordance with dress code and appearance guidelines
- Ensure all necessary shift coverage
- Master knowledge of products sold in the store
- Availability to work a varied and flexible schedule, including the busiest cafe shifts such as early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Average 45 hours/week
- This position will require the employee to periodically lift, push, pull or carry items up to 50 lbs in weight (putting away deliveries of boxes, heavy items such as coffee orders, etc)
- This position requires the employee to stand for extended periods of time
- This position will require the employee to periodically climb stairs, ramps, or uneven surfaces
- This position will require the employee to work with equipment that is hot and/or sharp
