Job Details

Upscale French Restaurant Group is seeking a professional and experienced Junior Sous Chef to assist the Sous Chef and Chef de Cuisine in achieving excellence in the kitchen. The Junior Sous Chef would be tasked with ensuring that the kitchen staff operates in an efficient and timely manner while maintaining the restaurant’s high level of quality. As Junior Sous Chef, you will supervise the preparation and execution of food items, as well as oversee food handling and safety protocols. The Junior Sous Chef also assists with inventory management and management of supplies. Strong time management and organizational skills are important for this role.  

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees and manages the operation of the kitchen’s staff, including direct management and supervision of all line cooks. 
  • Aids with overall kitchen operations as requested by the Chef de Cuisine and/or Sous Chef. 
  • Hires, trains, motivates, and coaches staff as they provide attentive, efficient service; assesses staff performance and provides helpful feedback and training opportunities. 
  • Establishes staff working schedule, evaluates job performance, and issues corrective discipline if necessary. 
  • Keeps track of inventory and place orders according to demand, keeping in mind the season and number of reservations. 

Skills and qualifications:  

  • Must have at least two years of work experience as a kitchen manager, junior sous chef or equivalent position in a fine dining restaurant. 
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.   
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel between assigned restaurants. 
  • Hold a current Food Handler’s license or must obtain within a month of hire. 
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook).
