Cannonball! restaurant is looking for hard working, passionate, professional prep & line cooks! Located in the heart of South Pasadena, 7 minutes from neighboring York Blvd, Figueroa Street & Old Town Pasadena, the kitchen at Cannonball! will be run by a James Beard Award-winning & Michelin starred chef Matt Molina. Our kitchen program will vary from snacks to small plates while being thoughtful, eclectic & gunslinging with offerings from both travels around the world & from within our own communities, all the while maintaining a focus toward complementing an extensive wine list & craft cocktail menu from our award winning beverage team. 

Job Summary: The Cooks will be responsible for preparing, cooking and garnishing various foods efficiently within our standards in every aspect.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining food storage and handling procedures
  • Executing menu items from start to finish, which includes but not limited to: preparation of ingredients, butchery of proteins, cooking and plating of menu items.
  • Working collaboratively with kitchen and dining room staff
  • Maintaining food quality standards held by the company
  • Performing culinary food production, portion control, and service standards
  • Weighing and measuring ingredients accurately according to our recipes
  • Maintaining a clean and sanitary work station
  • Stocking and maintaining sufficient levels of food products at workstation to ensure a smooth service
  • Maintaining a safe and positive work environment 
  • Regular attendance and punctuality 
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability. 

Education: High School diploma or general education degree (GED)

Required Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of line cook experience 
  • Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
  • Must have solid knowledge of food product and be able to skillfully apply culinary techniques
  • Knowledge of food preparation and cooking with high attention to detail in cooking & plating
  • A passion for food, exceptional work ethic and dedication
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Conversational English vocabulary
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Strong team-minded approach to coworkers
  • Proficient knife skills and use of the following kitchen equipment:
  • Grill
  • Convection ovens
  • Burners
  • Deep fryer
  • Steamers
  • Salamanders
  • Electric mixers
  • Electric slicers
  • Cryo-vac machines
  • Scales
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to the cold.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
