Job Details
New American neighborhood restaurant in Brooklyn is looking for a talented and energetic chef.  Great opportunity for an executive sous chef/strong lead sous to step into a main leadership role.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring promptness, freshness, and quality of dishes through proper expediting and line cooking where necessary.
  • Maintain proper food safety requirements as per NYC DOH.
  • Coordinate cooks’ tasks and scheduling.
  • Implement hygiene policies and examine equipment for cleanliness and efficiency. 
  • Assist the executive chef in creating seasonal menu changes, developing special event menus.
  • Review staffing levels to meet service, operational, and financial objectives.
  • Hiring and training kitchen staff, including line cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers, and porters.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as schedules, prep lists, inventory of food and equipment supplies, and daily purchase orders while maintaining proper labor and food cost percentage.
  • Setting and monitoring standards for staff.
  • Obtain feedback on food and service quality, and handle customer/client problems and complaints. 
  • Work with FOH management to create a seamless and memorable guest experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of culinary managerial restaurant experience.
  • References of culinary background required.
  • Computer knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite or the Google equivalent.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and keeps a clean and polished appearance.
  • New York City Food Handler’s Certificate. 
  • Open availability including nights, weekends, and holidays where necessary.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Fluency in English required, ability to communicate in Spanish preferred.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Salary ($85,000.00 - $90,000.00)
