This role will focus on teaching new culinary techniques, innovative cooking methods, and creative recipe development to inspire and upskill our kitchen team.
Job Overview:
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Chef to work alongside our existing kitchen team, sharing their knowledge of modern cooking trends, innovative dishes, and advanced techniques. This is a non-operational position focused solely on skill development and culinary education. You will serve as a mentor, guiding our team through hands-on cooking demonstrations and training sessions to enhance their culinary proficiency and inspire creativity in the kitchen.
Key Responsibilities:
- Culinary Training: Develop and deliver engaging training sessions to the back-of-house team, focusing on new cooking techniques, modern presentation styles, and innovative recipe development.
- Recipe Development: Introduce and demonstrate new, creative, and seasonal dishes, encouraging the team to experiment and refine their cooking approaches.
- Skill Enhancement: Teach advanced knife skills, plating techniques, cooking methods (e.g., sous-vide, fermentation, molecular gastronomy, etc.), and any other relevant skills to improve overall culinary knowledge.
- Collaborative Menu Innovation: Work closely with the kitchen team to brainstorm and design menu items that are both innovative and aligned with the restaurant's culinary identity.
- Team Empowerment: Inspire and motivate the kitchen staff to embrace creativity and continuously improve their cooking abilities, fostering a positive learning environment.
- Cooking Demonstrations: Lead live cooking demonstrations and offer constructive feedback to team members as they prepare dishes.
- Follow-Up and Evaluation: Monitor progress and provide continuous feedback to ensure skills are being applied effectively in daily kitchen operations.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a professional chef, with a strong background in high-end, innovative culinary techniques.
- Previous experience teaching or mentoring kitchen staff in a professional setting is highly preferred.
- Expertise in contemporary cooking methods, kitchen technologies, and modern presentation techniques.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex techniques in an approachable and engaging manner.
- A passion for culinary education and a desire to inspire creativity in others.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and engage with diverse team members.
- Culinary degree or equivalent formal training is preferred, but extensive practical experience will be considered.
Additional Skills:
- Strong organizational skills to structure training sessions and materials.
- Ability to develop engaging training resources, such as recipe handouts, instructional videos, or online materials, if needed.
