Job Title:  Kitchen Supervisor

Reports To:  Hospitality Manager

Company and Position Summary: 

Redwood Empire Whiskey recently acquired Savage and Cooke Distillery located in Vallejo on Mare Island.  The distillery features an event and dining space in an ultra-hip atmosphere.  Redwood Empire Whiskey is thrilled to continue the event and restaurant operations and we are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Kitchen Supervisor to join our dynamic team.  

 This full-time position is capable of autonomously setting up and closing down the kitchen, ordering supplies and food, scheduling and supervising cooks, and working the line, especially during peak times.  The event and restaurant team work Wednesday through Sunday.  The position offers full benefits, that include medical/dental/vision, paid holidays, paid vacation time, 401(k) plus match, various company perks that feature tuition assistance, product discounts, plus giveaways.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proficient in all skills and responsibilities of kitchen operations.
  • Collaborates and works with the Executive Chef to ensure food preparation and food quality meets standards.
  • Oversees food production. 
  • Maintains food and supply pars in order to effectively order supplies and food.
  • Ensures and oversees specific safety procedures for the assigned work area.
  • Owns responsibility of kitchen setup, shutdown, operating, troubleshooting issues, and making adjustments when necessary.
  • Oversees and supervises kitchen staff.
  • Schedules Back of House staff.
  • Maintains clean and organized kitchen and pantry.
  • Provide constructive assistance and guidance training line cooks.
  • Participates in team meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provides support to the maintenance department when there are equipment issues.
  • Assists with, and ensures, general housekeeping and cleaning of workstations.
  • Ability to work weekends and overtime when required by business needs.
  • Identify problems before they occur and remedy them.
  • Interprets and has knowledge of Employee Handbook policies, especially regarding California meal and break policies.

 Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating others.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in organizational skills, with ability to forecast business needs.
  • Passion for cooking and hospitality preferred.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Basic competence in subordinates’ duties and tasks.
  • Versatile, flexible, and enthusiastic to work within constantly changing environment.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Ability to multitask and juggle priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and team player with positive attitude.
  • Current food handlers card preferred.
  • Has a basic knowledge of Excel and Word, with the ability to use various online vendor ordering systems.
  • Spanish speaking skills a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.
  • Walk, kneel, bend and stand, primarily on concrete flooring.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a noisy, fast-paced environment.
  • Full-time, Wednesday – Sunday.
  • The restaurant is operated in our food truck, which is located on-site at the distillery.  Once a week, prep-work is performed off-site at a commercial kitchen in Vallejo.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($25.00 - $35.00) plus tips
