Position: Bar Manager
Location: Upper West Side, New York City, NY
Reports To: Restaurant General Manager/Owner
Schedule: Full-Time, including weekends and evenings

Overview:

An upscale Chinese restaurant in New York City is seeking an experienced and dynamic Bar Manager to oversee the daily operations of our exclusive bar. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, organizational, and customer service skills while maintaining a deep understanding of beverage trends, including cocktails, wines, and spirits with a focus on Chinese ingredients and traditions. This is a key role to ensure the bar enhances the overall guest experience in a refined and elegant environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bar Operations Management:
  • Oversee daily bar operations, including staffing, inventory, scheduling, and ensuring the bar is fully stocked with all necessary supplies.Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and overall presentation of the bar area.Ensure that all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are prepared and served to the highest standards.
  • Team Leadership and Training:

Manage, train, and mentor a team of bartenders and bar staff, ensuring they provide exceptional service and product knowledge.Conduct regular training on mixology, Chinese-themed cocktails, and proper guest interactions.Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

  • Inventory and Ordering:

Oversee inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and organizing bar stock, focusing on premium spirits, wines, and unique ingredients related to Chinese cuisine.Track and control beverage costs and waste to maintain profitability while ensuring quality.Collaborate with the culinary team to develop creative drink menus that complement the restaurant’s upscale Chinese cuisine.Innovate seasonal and special cocktails using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients with a focus on Chinese flavors and spirits (e.g., Baijiu, sake, tea-infused drinks).Regularly update the drink menu based on guest preferences and industry trends.Ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction by providing superior service and responding to guest needs promptly and professionally.Address guest complaints or concerns in a courteous and timely manner.Create a memorable and elevated experience that aligns with the upscale brand image of the restaurant.Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with all alcohol-related laws and regulations, including proper identification checks.Enforce responsible alcohol service policies.Ensure safe alcohol consumption practices within the bar area.Monitor bar revenue and expenses to meet or exceed financial targets.Assist with budgeting and forecasting for bar operations.Implement strategies to maximize revenue, such as promoting high-margin cocktails and drink specials.Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of bar management experience in a high-end, fine dining, or upscale restaurant environment.

  • Ability to manage and motivate a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • A passion for hospitality, customer service, and beverage trends.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, ordering systems, and financial controls.
  • Familiarity with New York City alcohol laws and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or certification in hospitality management, mixology, or related field.
  • Experience with Chinese spirits (e.g., Baijiu, Chinese teas, and liquors) and ingredients.
  • Experience creating beverage programs and innovative drink menus.
