Palma, a beloved Italian restaurant in the heart of the West Village, is seeking an experienced and highly creative Senior Floral & Visual Assistant to join our dynamic team. This role is perfect for someone with a passion for design, floral arrangements, and event coordination who is ready to take on a leadership role in the aesthetic direction of our restaurant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Floral Design & Care: Lead the design, arrangement, and maintenance of floral displays, plants, and other visual elements, ensuring they are always fresh, vibrant, and aligned with Palma’s aesthetic.
  • Event Planning & Execution: Oversee event room setups, working closely with the team to ensure flawless execution of both private and public events, including handling décor, furniture, and floral arrangements.
  • Leadership & Training: Supervise and mentor junior team members, providing guidance on floral design, event setups, and best practices for maintaining a beautiful and organized environment.
  • Inventory & Ordering: Manage floral and décor inventory, place orders for new supplies, and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure high-quality materials are always available.
  • Physical Tasks: Perform hands-on tasks, including lifting, bending, moving arrangements, furniture, and supplies to execute event setups.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the management team and front-of-house staff to align the restaurant's visual environment with its branding, themes, and seasonal changes.
  • Additional Duties: Take on special projects as needed, such as seasonal décor installations, holiday displays, and more.

Requirements:

  • Extensive Experience in Floral Design or Event Coordination: Minimum of 2-3 years in a floral design or event setting, with a strong portfolio of previous work or experience in similar roles.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven experience in leading and mentoring a team, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Aesthetic Sensibility: Strong eye for design, with the ability to create visually cohesive, elegant, and innovative floral displays and event setups.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and carry items (up to 50 pounds), bend, and move around the restaurant during shifts.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to think on your feet and handle last-minute changes, tight timelines, and high-pressure situations with grace and efficiency.
  • Positive Attitude & Team Collaboration: Enthusiastic, with a proactive mindset and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Creative Vision: Ability to bring fresh ideas and seasonal inspiration to the restaurant's overall look and feel.

Schedule:

  • Seasonal Full-time position with flexibility, including weekends and evenings depending on event schedules.

A first generation Brooklyn Italian girl & a native Parisian boy who spent his best time near the Italian border in Cannes. Together they started D'Orazio Food Events, one of the first photoshoot catering companies, catering to the fashion & entertainment industries. They continued their love story when they opened Palma in 2001, a small 35 seat restaurant.

The restaurant thrived as an extension of their home. You could always find their daughters sitting at a table doing homework or running around playing games. This atmosphere extended to their guests, who they host as they would their friends & family. Over the years, their restaurant has grown organically & independently, & all the while Palma's heart has stayed the same. She explains that food nurtures the soul as well as the body. It is essential for her to feed her guests what she would feed her family.
