Papa San is an exciting new izakaya restaurant from the minds behind Llama inn and Llama San nestled in the heart of Hudson Yards, New York. We pride ourselves on offering a unique culinary experience that celebrates the rich flavors and traditions of Japanese cuisine. Our menu features a variety of dishes, from grilled skewers to seasonal specialties, all crafted with the freshest ingredients. As we prepare to launch, we are looking for passionate and talented individuals to join our team.

 

Job Description:

We are seeking a seasoned Sous Chef to support our Head Chef and Executive Sous Chef in delivering an exceptional dining experience. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a focus on service excellence, culinary creativity, and maintaining impeccable cleanliness in the kitchen.

 

Key Responsibilities:

- Kitchen Operations: Assist in the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring efficient workflow and timely service.

- Food Preparation: Oversee food preparation and cooking processes, ensuring dishes are prepared to high standards of quality and presentation.

- Staff Management:  Lead, train, and motivate kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.

- Quality Control: Monitor food quality and consistency, ensuring that every dish meets our high standards before it leaves the kitchen.

- Sanitation & Safety: Enforce strict adherence to food safety and sanitation regulations, always maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.

- Inventory Management: Assist in ordering and inventory control, minimizing waste while ensuring sufficient stock levels for the kitchen.

- Customer Experience: Support the front-of-house team by ensuring timely food delivery and addressing any service issues that may arise.

 

Qualifications:

- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of culinary experience, with at least 2 years in a Sous Chef or similar leadership role.

- Culinary Skills: Strong knowledge of Japanese cuisine and cooking techniques; familiarity with izakaya-style dining is a plus.

- Leadership: Proven ability to manage and inspire a team, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork.

- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

- Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail, ensuring consistency in food quality and presentation.

- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and adapt to changing demands.

Later followed by Llama San, Peruvian-Japanese (Nikkei) restaurant in the West Village. We excitedly introduce Nikkei cuisines to NYC and our Llama Inn fan base.

And across the Atlantic, our newest additions, Llama Inn Madrid and Llama Inn London.

Coming in the Winter of 2025 will be Papa San- a Peruvian Izakaya. Nestled into the Spiral building in Hudson Yards, this expansive operation will be the biggest in the family. Taking inspiration from Peru and Japan, the food menus will be crafted by Erik Ramirez, the cocktail program led by Tres Monos from Argentina, and will have an exciting wine and sake list.
