If yes, the beloved NOHO restaurant il Buco has an opening for a Floor Manager, offering a unique opportunity for growth and development in the hospitality industry.

As the Floor Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the restaurant's daily operations. Working closely with the General Manager, you will actively embody, inspire, and teach skills to elevate the guest experience, your teams, and ultimately, il Buco Restaurant as a company.

The Responsibilities include

  • Working with the General Manager and Assistant General Manager on weekly scheduling pars, shifts, and labor optimization
  • Publishing the entire FOH schedule; fielding all time-off requests and employee availabilities
  • Training all new hires on open-handed service, second-level service, and refined dining room etiquette
  • Ensuring the front door is adequately staffed and the Lead Host is maximizing covers by properly seating the room, utilizing all dining areas, and assisting with ensuring tables turn on time for following seating
  • Manage the communication between the door, the floor, the bar, and the kitchen, acting as a liaison between all areas of the restaurant
  • Strong communication between all departments, both FOH/BOH, and being in constant communication with fellow FOH Management team
  • Floor managing five times a week
  • Overseeing and ensuring DOH & OSHA compliance for entire FOH team
  • Execution of HR best practices during onboardings, trainings, coaching, disciplinary actions, and terminations; compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws
  • Attendance at all weekly manager meetings

Additional responsibilities:

  • Assist with sommelier duties as needed
  • Assist in budgetary strategies for driving revenues and optimizing costs
  • Collaborate with Management team to maximize guest satisfaction and service

Required Experience

  • Familiarization with opening and closing management procedures
  • Exudes excellence in hospitality for all employees and guests
  • Possesses excellent strategic planning skills, emphasizing delivering, executing, and assessing action plans
  • Proactive in their communication with the General Manager and Assistant General Manager
  • Analytical and organizational skills, as well as the ability to define, effectively solve, and deal with a variety of changing situations under stress
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve conflicting interests to obtain cooperation
  • Passion for exceptional hospitality, food, and beverages
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Self-driven, results-oriented, and possesses a solid track record of leading FOH teams
  • Well-versed in restaurant industry-specific labor laws
  • Proficient in various technology systems, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Payroll, POS, COGS Systems, and scheduling systems
  • Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, as are the ability to effectively train, coach, evaluate, and discipline employees 
  • Flexible work schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as per business needs

Preferred Experience

  • 2 to 3 years in a senior leadership position overseeing a full-service restaurant.
  • Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • NYC Food Protection Certificate (Food Handlers) required.

Physical Demands & Essential Functions

  • The physical demands for this position are seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, frequently lifting up to 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting or standing for 4 to 8 hours, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours. These physical requirements may be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English 
  • Polished personal presentation; grooming meets Company standards, as outlined by the Employee Handbook 
  • Ability to walk, stand, and bend continuously and for extended periods as required to perform essential job functions 
  • Ability to perform essential job functions when working under stress in a fast-paced environment

The il Buco Family started with the restaurant Gourmet magazine calls "one of the best and most exciting in America" started life in 1994 when independent filmmaker Donna Lennard and her Italian partner, Alberto Avalle, opened an off-the-beaten path antique store on cobblestoned Bond Street. A modern day trading post of crafts and culture, il Buco attracted an eclectic clientele of locals, lured in by the warmth and magic of the space, the worn patinas of the primitive antiques and Americana, and eventually the aromas of the kitchen, as the couple transformed the rustic antique store into a charming restaurant attracting an incredible roster of chefs over the years and bringing the restaurant international acclaim.
