Employment Type: Full-Time/Part-Time

Reports To: Restaurant Manager, Beverage Manager, AGM, GM, DOO

About Ostras: Ostras is a Latin-Asian Oyster Bar and fine dining restaurant that seeks to showcase the beauty of the 19th parallel north, connecting Mexico with many Southeast Asian countries. We combine the flavors of Mexico, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and China to create a unique culinary experience. Inspired by renowned establishments like Mare in Chiang Mai, La Dosena in Mexico City, and Porto in Chicago, our mission is to tell the story behind our ingredients and the techniques from the lands they originate.

Job Summary: The Host at Ostras is responsible for providing a warm and welcoming first impression to all guests. This role involves managing reservations, seating guests, and coordinating the flow of guests in the dining area. The Host plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable dining experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guest Reception:
    • Greet guests promptly and courteously as they enter the restaurant.
    • Manage reservations and walk-ins, ensuring accurate wait times and efficient seating.
    • Escort guests to their tables and provide menus.
  • Reservation Management:
    • Utilize the reservation system to manage bookings and optimize table assignments.
    • Confirm reservations and handle special requests or dietary needs.
    • Communicate reservation details and guest preferences to the FOH team.
  • Seating Coordination:
    • Coordinate with the FOH Manager and servers to manage table assignments and rotation.
    • Monitor dining room activity to ensure efficient seating and service flow.
    • Maintain a waitlist during busy periods and keep guests informed of their status.
  • Customer Service:
    • Provide exceptional customer service, addressing guest inquiries and concerns.
    • Assist guests with coat check, special accommodations, and other needs.
    • Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor at all times.
  • FOH Maintenance:
    • Keep the entrance, host stand, and dining area clean and organized.
    • Ensure that menus and promotional materials are current and well-presented.
    • Assist with setting up and breaking down the dining room as needed.
  • Communication:
    • Communicate effectively with the FOH team and kitchen staff to ensure seamless service.
    • Relay guest feedback and special requests to the appropriate staff members.
    • Maintain open lines of communication with management regarding any issues or improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience as a host or in a customer service role in a fine dining establishment is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
    • Familiarity with reservation systems and seating software is a plus.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Positive attitude and a team player.
    • Strong work ethic and reliability.
    • Passion for providing exceptional service.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment.
