Ostras is a Latin-Asian Oyster Bar and fine dining restaurant that celebrates the fusion of Mexican and Southeast Asian flavors, inspired by the culinary heritage along the 19th parallel north. We craft unique dining experiences, focusing on bold flavors, exceptional ingredients, and refined techniques that bring out the best in each dish.

Job Summary:
The Maitre d' at Ostras is the lead host and plays a vital role in ensuring seamless front-of-house operations and exceptional guest experiences. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the host team, communicating reservations and seating plans to staff during pre-shift meetings, and upholding high standards of service. The Maitre d' is instrumental in fostering a positive guest experience from the moment of arrival, while also growing the skills and standards of the host team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guest Reception and Hospitality:
    • Greet guests with warmth and professionalism, ensuring a positive first impression.
    • Manage guest seating and waitlist, balancing reservations with walk-in guests to optimize flow.
    • Address guest inquiries and special requests, providing information about the restaurant, menu, and dining experience.
  • Team Leadership and Training:
    • Lead, train, and mentor the host team to uphold high standards of service.
    • Develop and conduct training sessions for hosts, enhancing skills in guest interaction, seating protocol, and reservation management.
    • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, promoting continuous learning and improvement.
  • Reservation and Seating Coordination:
    • Oversee daily reservations using Resy reservation software, ensuring accurate and efficient booking management.
    • Communicate reservation details, large parties, and special arrangements to the front-of-house and kitchen staff during pre-shift meetings.
    • Monitor table turnover and timing to support a smooth dining experience for each guest.
  • Service Standards and Quality Control:
    • Uphold Ostras’ service standards, ensuring that all hosts maintain a welcoming and organized environment.
    • Monitor the host stand to ensure a polished appearance and efficient operation.
    • Address any guest concerns promptly and professionally, ensuring issues are resolved to enhance the dining experience.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Assist with schedule coordination for host staff, ensuring appropriate coverage during shifts.
    • Provide feedback to management regarding host performance, guest interactions, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Maintain accurate records of reservations, guest preferences, and feedback for future reference.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 1 years of experience in a fine dining or upscale restaurant as a lead host, head host, or similar role.
    • Experience with reservation management software, such as Resy, is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong focus on guest service.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in coordinating reservations and seating.
    • Ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Professional demeanor with a warm and approachable personality.
    • Ability to remain composed and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
    • Enthusiastic about delivering exceptional guest experiences and supporting team growth.
