Lead Barista

Purple Waves is a brand new neighborhood cafe and wine bar located at the nexus of the UWS, Harlem and Morningside Heights. We take pride in offering a warm, inviting space where the community can come together to savor fresh and local food and beverages and enjoy each other's company. We are committed to promoting sustainability, circularity, waste reduction, and supporting local producers, and are looking for passionate individuals to join our team.
Position Overview:
As Lead Barista you will be the heart of our coffee program. You will work closely with the GM to oversee the daily operations of the bar, ensuring quality and consistency with each beverage, while mentoring and inspiring your team. This role goes beyond coffee; we’re looking for someone who embodies our sustainable values and can connect meaningfully with our neighborhood regulars and the staff alike.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve exceptional beverages with a focus on local and sustainable ingredients.
- Lead and train a team of baristas, fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
- Manage inventory, order supplies, and collaborate with the GM to maintain our mission statement.
- Innovate! Create seasonal and specialty beverages that align with our mission statement.
- Educate guests on our products and practices.
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and DOH protocols.
Qualifications:
- 2+ Years of Barista experience. Management experience is a big plus.
- Deep knowledge of coffee preparation and a passion for sustainable practices.
- A friendly, outgoing personality with strong communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Commitment to community engagement and creating a welcoming space for everyone.
