Position Title: Line Cook
Reports to: Owner / Head Chef

Job Type: Full-Time 

Position Summary:

As a Line Cook at Zoftig Eatery you'll be responsible for preparing high-quality dishes in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. You will work on the line to execute food orders with speed and accuracy while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and food quality. The ideal candidate is passionate about food, thrives under pressure, and works well in a collaborative kitchen atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Food Preparation & Cooking:

    • Prepare and cook food items according to menu specifications and recipes.
    • Ensure that all dishes are plated and presented according to restaurant standards.
    • Maintain portion control and minimize food waste.
    • Operate kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, stoves, ovens, and slicers.
  • Line Operations:

    • Set up and break down the station for each shift, ensuring all items are stocked and equipment is clean and functioning.
    • Cook food items quickly and efficiently during peak service hours.
    • Coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely and accurate food delivery to the front of house.
  • Quality Control & Safety:

    • Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, ensuring proper food handling and cleanliness.
    • Maintain a clean, organized workspace throughout the shift.
    • Monitor and maintain food temperatures to ensure they are safe for service.
  • Inventory & Stocking:

    • Assist with inventory management, including receiving and storing deliveries.
    • Ensure that all ingredients and supplies are available and stocked for service.
    • Report any equipment malfunctions or shortages to the kitchen manager.
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff, front-of-house team, and management to ensure smooth service.
    • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to improve skills and efficiency.
    • Provide feedback to improve menu items, processes, or kitchen operations.
Requirements:
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience as a line cook, prep cook, or in a kitchen environment preferred, but not required.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, handling multiple orders at once.
  • Skills:
    • Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen equipment.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to follow recipes and adhere to portion control standards.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a hot, fast-paced environment.
  • Other:
    • Must have a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    • Food handler’s certification (or ability to obtain one) may be required based on local regulations.

Husband and wife owners Matt and Sonjia Spector opened Zoftig Eatery in 2018 with the mission to provide “finer fast food”. Prior to Zoftig, The Spectors owned JoLe, a fine-dining restaurant in Calistoga. Chefs Matt and Sonjia pull from their extensive culinary experience working in great Philadelphia restaurants, where they met. Their first venture together was Matyson Restaurant, which they sold in 2007 to move to California.

Today, Zoftig Eatery features a curated menu of sandwiches, salads, wraps, bowls and scratch made desserts. Their diverse daily specials are highly coveted and tend to sell out shortly after they are announced. The Spectors source many ingredients from local purveyors such as Acme Bread Co., Saint Frank Coffee, Stemple Creek Ranch and Straus Family Creamery. In addition, they offer local craft beer, wines, kombuchas and teas.

Zoftig Eatery was featured on Food Network’s, “Diners, Drive Ins & Dives” in 2018 after local celebrity and host Guy Fieri tasted their Korean Burrito while filming Guy’s Grocery Games in Santa Rosa.
