About Ostras: Ostras is a Latin-Asian Oyster Bar and fine dining restaurant that seeks to showcase the beauty of the 19th parallel north, connecting Mexico with many Southeast Asian countries. We combine the flavors of Mexico, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and China to create a unique culinary experience. Inspired by renowned establishments like Mare in Chiang Mai, La Dosena in Mexico City, and Porto in Chicago, our mission is to tell the story behind our ingredients and the techniques from the lands they originate.

Job Summary: The Server at Ostras is responsible for providing exceptional, refined dining experiences to our guests. This role requires a deep understanding of our unique menu, a commitment to excellent customer service, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The Server must embody the standards of fine dining service, including meticulous attention to detail, thorough menu knowledge, and an unwavering commitment to guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service:
    • Greet guests promptly and courteously, setting a welcoming tone for their dining experience.
    • Present menus and provide detailed descriptions of menu items, including daily specials and chef’s recommendations.
    • Answer questions about the menu, ingredients, preparation methods, and dietary accommodations with confidence and accuracy.
  • Order Taking and Delivery:
    • Take accurate food and beverage orders, noting special requests and dietary restrictions, and enter them into the POS system.
    • Deliver food and beverages to guests with precision, ensuring proper presentation and temperature.
    • Monitor guest satisfaction, promptly addressing any issues or requests to ensure a positive dining experience.
  • Menu Knowledge and Pairings:
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of our Latin-Asian fusion menu, including preparation methods and ingredient origins.
    • Make thoughtful recommendations to guests, including wine and cocktail pairings that complement their meal choices.
    • Stay informed about new menu items, seasonal changes, and special offerings.
  • Sales and Upselling:
    • Promote daily specials, chef’s tasting menus, and high-margin items to enhance the dining experience and increase sales.
    • Suggest appropriate wine pairings, specialty cocktails, and desserts to complement guests’ meals.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the kitchen and bar staff to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment.
    • Coordinate with bussers, food runners, and other servers to maintain efficient service flow.
    • Assist in training new servers, and sharing knowledge and best practices for fine dining service.
  • FOH Maintenance:
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area, ensuring that tables, chairs, and service stations are properly set.
    • Set up and break down tables and service stations according to fine dining standards.
    • Restock FOH supplies and service items as needed, coordinating with bussers and food runners.
  • Safety and Sanitation:
    • Adhere to all safety and sanitation regulations, ensuring a clean and safe environment for guests and staff.
    • Ensure proper handling of food and beverages, following health and safety guidelines.
    • Report any maintenance or safety issues to the FOH Manager promptly.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; formal hospitality or culinary education preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a server in a fine dining establishment.
    • Experience with Latin and Asian cuisine is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
    • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Familiarity with POS systems and fine dining service protocols.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Positive attitude and a team player.
    • Strong work ethic and reliability.
    • Passion for providing an exceptional dining experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment.
