Job Details

Rival Bros operates multiple cafes, a cocktail bar/restaurant and a robust wholesale program in the Philadelphia area, delivering excellent coffee and customer experience on each front. 

Cooks joining Rival Bros cafes get to be part of a developing food program in a growing Philadelphia brand. Strong team members will be able to make salads and sandwiches quickly while maintaining an upbeat demeanor and cooperative attitude.  As a Rival Cook,  you will serve guests by preparing food, maintaining safety and sanitation standards, and process light paperwork. Displaying exceptional customer service and having a team player mentality are major components of this position.  You will work together with front of house staff to ensure smooth operations of the cafe and to drive excellent customer experience. 


You will:

  • Attend scheduled shifts on time and in accordance with dress code and appearance guidelines
  • Maintain a positive and engaging demeanor
  • Keep the cafe clean, presentable, and organized inside and outside; this includes taking out trash, and upholding all cleaning and sanitation standards in the kitchen and related areas
  • Have a clear understanding of all cafe f&b items
  • Prepare simple, yet high quality food, using a variety of different equipment and tools 
  • Prepare and package food items to be picked up for delivery to other Rival locations
  • Fulfill (and occasionally take) customer orders and requests
  • Contribute to an excellent experience for both employees and customers
  • Receive, stock and organize kitchen items, deliveries, and paper goods
  • Communicate with staff and managers to keep the work environment functioning smoothly
  • Assist in successful training of new hires by familiarizing them with day to day cafe operations while on shift including: food handling information, general flow of service, customer interaction, opening and closing procedure
  • Complete all side work before the end of a shift

                                                                                                                                                                                                          


Ideal Applicants:

  • Have weekend availability 
  • Are comfortable both giving and receiving feedback: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are preferred!
  • Are self-motivated and able to complete tasks independently 
  • Can effectively multitask; are able to balance fulfilling customer orders with significant prep work
  • Enjoy working in a fast paced environment but find appropriate work to be completed in downtime
  • Have experience in customer service in one or more of the following areas:  retail, restaurant, quick service food establishment or other related hospitality sectors
  • Have an understanding of basic cooking techniques and are comfortable utilizing basic knife skills ( but we can train! )
  • Are looking to grow with our organization and eager to learn new skills

Physical Demands

  • This position will require the employee to periodically lift and carry items up to 50 lbs in weight (putting away deliveries of boxes, cold brew kegs, outdoor furniture)
  • This position requires the employee to stand for extended periods of time 
  • This position will require the employee to periodically climb stairs, ramps or uneven surfaces.
