Come be a part of a small team transporting guests to a small bistro in Paris, right in the heart of Lafayette. RÊVE is a small family-owned classic French bistro in Lafayette. Recognized by Michelin in 2021-2024, one of only a few in the East Bay. We work hard to maintain that reputation but also realize there is life outside of the restaurant. We're closed on Sundays & Mondays, Thanksgiving Day, December 24-26, and two weeks in July / August for vacation. Imagine every holiday off.
We are seeking a strong well rounded Sous Chef to join our team. Experience as a line cook or higher at a Michelin or French restaurant. We hire with the philosophy of finding ideal team players: Humble, hungry and smart. You will be working on the line every night and be able to step into any station as needed (including dishwasher). Respecting what we have built, and chef's recipes and techniques, be willing to learn and grow. You will also assist in managing food cost, labor cost and have strong computer skills. Hour requirements about 45-50 hours / week Tuesday - Saturday. Opportunity for someone looking to someday have their own restaurant & see what that looks like from the inside. RÊVE has been open for 9 years and has no investors. We are debt free.
This is an hourly position, starting at $35 (DOE) that includes approx. 4-6 hrs. OT / week, which will bring it to a anticipated yearly income of about $80,000 / yr. As we grow in revenue, we reward our long-term employees through bonuses, raises etc. 401K plan after 1 year, with 3% company match. We do not offer medial. Paid time off during closures and holidays (about 14 days / year)
Responsibilities:
Work as #2 in the kitchen under chef / owner. Assist managing team of 6 in the kitchen.
Work the line each night
Maintain cleanliness standards
Ordering / maintain positive relationships with vendors
Staff training & discipline
Maintain Michelin standards
Qualifications:
· 4 + years in fine dining / Michelin restaurant
- proficient in Word & Excel
· Knowledge of classic French cooking techniques
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
· Desire to learn, take pride in your work - you read cookbooks a lot.
· Looking for long term growth
- Strong knife skills, butchery, saucier, and plating techniques.
Physical requirements:
- lift / carry up to 50 lbs
- stand for 10+ hours
- twist, bend, reach for 8+ hours
- work in small kitchen environment
