Position Overview:

MIKA is seeking experienced and polished Sommeliers to provide world-class service in a refined and sophisticated dining environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for hospitality, and the ability to deliver exceptional guest experiences. This role requires a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work seamlessly as part of a team in a high-end restaurant setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional service to guests in accordance with fine dining standards.
  • Recommends wines to patrons based on price, personal taste, and food selection. - Oversees the serving and storage of wine and trains team members on wine selection.
  • Ensures wines are served in the correct glassware and at the proper temperature. - Demonstrates a friendly personality, strong knowledge of wine and spirits, and great interpersonal skills. 
  • Possesses an expert understanding of regions wine laws, appellations, grape varieties, harvest times, elevation, climate, soil, and fermentation processes. 
  • Has full knowledge of MIKA wine and food menu items to make effective sales that enhance both the business and guest experience. 
  • Effectively use POS systems and other restaurant technology to account for all sales. - Handles customer complaints or issues with a positive attitude, notifying management whenever necessary. 
  • Maintains all service tools including decanters, wine keys, and more. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene standards in compliance with restaurant policies and local regulations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.   
  • Previous experience as a Sommelier in a fine dining or upscale restaurant environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of fine dining etiquette, food presentation, and wine service.
  • Strong multitasking abilities, with the capacity to remain calm and composed under pressure.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team and contribute to a harmonious service environment.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and carry items for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain all required licenses, certificates, or permits.  
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.

Working Conditions:

  • Must have open availability and the ability to regularly report to work on time including on nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the restaurant.
  • Ability to work long days when required by business demands.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and carry items for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently lift heavy items, including trays, up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors.
