Our Bed-Stuy location is looking for enthusiastic and customer-focused baristas to join our growing team.
Job Summary:
As a barista at Ginjan Café, you will be responsible for crafting high-quality beverages, engaging with customers, and maintaining a clean and efficient workspace. This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about coffee, love interacting with people, and have a keen interest in African culture and flavors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding customer service.
- Prepare and serve a variety of beverages, including espresso drinks, specialty coffee, juices, and African-inspired drinks (such as our signature Ginjan).
- Ensure the consistency and quality of all beverages and food items.
- Operate coffee machines, grinders, juicers, and other equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including the café seating area, counter, and equipment.
- Adhere to all health and safety standards, including food handling, sanitation, and hygiene guidelines.
- Handle cash, process payments, and manage point-of-sale transactions accurately.
- Educate customers about the Ginjan Café menu, African flavors, and any seasonal offerings.
- Assist with stocking supplies and ingredients as needed.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a barista or in a customer service role is preferred, but not required (we are willing to train the right candidate).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for coffee, beverages, and providing an excellent customer experience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts as needed.
- Interest in or knowledge of African culture and beverages is a plus.

Compensation Details
Compensation: Hourly ($15.00 - $16.00) plus tips
