We are looking for a talented part time Link Cook Tuesday, Thursday, Friday evenings from 2 / 3:30 PM - 10 / Midnight. 

Esters is a chic wine bar with some really great food, a massive, planet-friendly wine collection, thoughtful cocktails, and a beautifully curated shop with gourmet provisions and gifts in downtown Santa Monica. We’re like a neighborhood clubhouse with fun programming, and a relaxing place to drink, eat and socialize. A 2023 James Beard Semifinalist for “Outstanding Bar,” we also have a variety of seasonal cocktails and mocktails. Inspired by our favorite bistros and wine bars in Spain and France, our “little kitchen that could” whips up an all-day menu of farmers' market-driven dishes, snacks and cheeses that pair with wine, including a daily happy hour.

Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Line Cook to join our culinary team at Esters Wine Bar. The ideal candidate will have experience working both hot and cold line stations, be capable of prepping their own station efficiently, and excel in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the chef and kitchen staff are essential. We are looking for cooks who are seeking to refine their skill sets and grow in the culinary profession.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and organize your station for service, including mise en place/recipe prep and maintaining cleanliness.
  • Execute dishes to a consistent high standard on both the hot and cold line.
  • Ensure all food is prepared to the chef’s specifications and adheres to kitchen guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations, contributing to a positive team culture.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, following all health and safety standards.
  • Effectively communicate with the chef and staff to ensure service runs smoothly and any issues are addressed promptly.
  • Participate in daily prep work and ensure not only your station is ready for service but that the whole kitchen team is ready. 
  • Be flexible and adaptable, assisting with additional tasks as needed, and troubleshoot challenges that arise during service.
  • Contribute to maintaining an efficient, positive, and safe kitchen environment.
  • Participate in the preparation of staff meals.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Line Cook or relevant role.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, and procedures.
  • Ability to handle and troubleshoot kitchen equipment and machinery.
  • Food hanflers certification
  • A passion for learning and willingness to grow within the team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle physically demanding kitchen tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Work Hours:

  • Full-time position requiring availability for various shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($18.00 - $20.00) plus tips

Estimated Weekly Tips: $300
