Job description

Award winning A16 Rockridge is currently looking for an experienced sous chef/events chef with a passion for southern Italian cuisine to join the management team.

Requirements, experience and training we are looking for in a candidate:

  •  2-3 years managing a kitchen; 1-2 years leading a busy fine dining kitchen
  • 1-2 years Catering Experience
  • Manager Food Safety Certification Preferred
  • Valid CA Drivers License Required
  • Kitchen Spanish Preferred
  • Wood-burning oven cookery and southern Italian cuisine
  • Experience achieving food cost and labor cost; monthly inventory
  • Ability to work as part of the team or independently
  • Recruitment, coaching, mentoring, disciplinary procedures, and scheduling.
  • Exuding a positive attitude, and being a role model for the entire restaurant staff
  • We will be focusing on the right candidate to lead our team and embrace the A16 culture and environment.
  • Experience running an open kitchen
  • Sense of urgency and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Culinary Graduate a plus
  • Whole animal butchery
  • Farm to table menu planning
  • Experience making pasta by hand
  • Maintaining established standards of food quality and plating

A16 provides full-time salaried position with benefits (medical and dental fully covered for the employee). The work week will typically be 50+ hours per week and the position requires nights and weekend hours. Salary based on experience.

A16 is a restaurant and wine bar that brings to San Francisco the delicious and hospitable traditions of lively Campania, the Italian region that is home to Naples. The chic rustic/modernist venue is named after the motorway that transverses the region of Campania.
The restaurant features wood oven fired Neapolitan Pizza and other specialties of Campania, such as Pork Breast Braised with Olives, Herbs and Chestnuts. The wine bar serves 40 wines by the glass and half bottle carafe. The list is 60 percent Italian, mostly from the South, and the other 40 percent is New World, celebrating premiere Italian varietals grown in California along with many California wines.
