The General Manager of Mermaid Oyster Bar Greenwich Village is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the restaurant, ensuring exceptional hospitality, and maximizing profitability. They will lead and motivate the team, maintain high standards of quality, cleanliness, and safety, and drive revenue growth through effective marketing strategies and operational efficiency.
Our Greenwich Village location has 65 seats inside, and during warmer months another 72 seats outside. The ideal candidate has experience managing a restaurant that changes seasonally.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Train, and supervise staff members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Set performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Motivate team members to achieve operational excellence and exceed customer expectations.
Operations Management:
- Oversee all aspects of restaurant operations, including but not limited to, food preparation, service, inventory management, and facility maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, sanitation standards, and company policies.
- Develop and implement operational procedures to optimize efficiency and productivity.
- Oversee the set-up, maintenance and cleanliness of the outdoor seating areas.
Customer Satisfaction:
- Uphold high standards of customer service, addressing any concerns or complaints promptly and effectively.
- Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements to enhance the overall dining experience.
- Build rapport with guests, touching tables, and foster loyalty and repeat business.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasting revenue and expenses accurately.
- Monitor financial performance against targets, identifying areas for cost control and revenue enhancement.
- Implement pricing strategies and promotions to drive revenue
- Work with DOO and Controller to analyze P & L statements, looking for efficiencies and cost savings
- Develop and maintain employee schedules, ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet operational demands while controlling labor costs.
Payroll Duties:
- Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in employee compensation.
- Address payroll-related inquiries and resolve any discrepancies or issues promptly.
Inventory and Supply Chain Management:
- Oversee inventory levels and procurement processes to ensure adequate stock levels while minimizing waste and controlling costs.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts and pricing terms to optimize value.
- Run the inventory tracking systems and conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Restaurant Management: In-depth understanding of restaurant operations, including food preparation, service standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Leadership and Team Building: Ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
- Financial Acumen: Proficiency in budgeting, financial analysis, and cost control measures to maximize profitability.
- Hospitality Excellence: Dedication to delivering exceptional hospitality and resolving issues effectively to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Marketing and Sales: Knowledge of marketing principles and techniques, with the ability to develop and implement effective marketing strategies to drive sales and revenue growth.
- Inventory and Supply Chain Management: Understanding of inventory control processes, procurement best practices, and supply chain management principles to optimize inventory levels and minimize costs.
- Software Skills: Knowledge or understanding of restaurant management software such as Toast, 7Shifts, Avero, and proficiency in productivity tools like Outlook is a plus.

Qualifications:
- Experience Requirement: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a General Manager role or restaurant management, demonstrating a proven track record of success in leading and managing restaurant operations.
- Proven experience in restaurant management, with a track record of success in achieving operational and financial targets.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including POS systems, MS Office Suite, and inventory management software.
- Proven experience in the food industry in a managerial role.
- Strong cash handling skills and financial acumen.
- Knowledge of wine, liquor and beer is a plus.

Working Conditions: The General Manager will work in a fast-paced restaurant environment, requiring flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. may also be required to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects occasionally.
