Job Title: Assistant FOH Lead


Job Description:

The Assistant FOH Lead will be a champion of hospitality and ensure a consistently excellent guest experience at Floriole. They will assist in guiding the team by modeling excellent service and taking diligent care of the cafe, the food we serve, the guests, and the team. The right individual will assist the FOH Lead in ensuring execution of Floriole policies, procedures, expectations, and standards. The Assistant FOH Lead will work closely with the leadership team to fulfill operations tasks and big picture strategies. In addition to demonstrating an undeniable knack for providing warm hospitality, the ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, creative problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to empower the FOH and Support teams to support Floriole’s continued success and growth. This position is considered a stepping stone to the FOH Lead position and will prepare the individual to step into this position in the future.


Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • 80% on-the-floor work, 20% administrative
  • Reports to the FOH Lead & General Manager.
  • Understands & upholds Floriole's mission statement & guiding principles
  • Proficiency in all stations: Barista, Register, Online, Pack, Hospitality
  • Provides excellent hospitality and maintains Floriole standards set forth by the FOH Lead.
  • Fulfills beverage & food orders efficiently and accurately, and is certified on all relevant stations.
  • Fills in for the FOH Lead when necessary.
  • Models and assists in training new and existing team members on coffee bar duties, customer service and hospitality standards, sales techniques and strategies, sanitation and food safety, and other FOH aspects.
  • Assists in facilitating training and coaching for new and existing Support team members on daily, weekly, and monthly tasks & responsibilities. 
  • Observes and assesses station and team flow and works with FOH Lead to optimize team performance.
  • Assists in facilitating communication and teamwork between the FOH & Support teams to ensure efficient execution of tasks, excellent hospitality, smooth and successful service flow, and care and keeping of the dining room and other relevant aspects.
  • Works with FOH Lead & GM to coordinate and execute public and private events.
  • Assists in orchestrating service flow day-to-day and during busy times and holidays.
  • Communicates effectively across departments and demonstrates capacity to follow up and follow through with tasks and lines of communication.
  • Follows and observes compliance of Floriole systems and procedures, and works with FOH Lead, GM, and Head Baker to improve these systems as necessary.
  • Facilitates and executes the accurate ordering, receiving, labeling, storing, and FIFO-ing of all FOH product inventory.
  • Assists with quality control and takes necessary corrective steps to maintain product standards.
  • Ensures dining areas & workspaces are neat, clean and sanitary.
  • Continually improves knowledge around all menu items and assists in ensuring the FOH team has all necessary product knowledge.
  • Assists with and participates actively in team meetings and events, and solicits active participation from team
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, go up and down stairs and work standing for long periods of time.

Job Details:

  • Full-Time Position
  • Weekends and Holidays are a must. 
  • Shifts are Wednesday - Sunday between 7am - 4pm (subject to change)
  • $17 hour +tips (usually around $6/hour)
  • Eligible for health insurance after 60 days (50% employer contribution). 
  • Up to 80 hours combined sick and PTO accrued annually

The Success Patterns for this position are: 

  • Demonstrates a keen interest in learning and a desire to continually improve.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a love for connecting with people.
  • Experience working in customer service or retail.  Experience working in a food service environment is preferred. Barista experience preferred.
  • Experience using a Point of Sales system.  Square preferred. 
  • Leadership experience is a plus.
  • IL Food Handler Certificate required.
  • Servsafe Manager City of Chicago Certificate preferred.
  • Servsafe Allergen Certificate preferred.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($17.00) plus tips

Estimated Weekly Tips: $250

Floriole began as a stand at Chicago’s famed Green City Market, where for nearly 5 years we sold our rustic, French pastries in a 10-by-10 tent. Most produce, meats, dairy and cheeses are sourced directly from sustainable farms in the region. We use organic flour and sugar, Valrhona chocolate, European-style butter and cage-free eggs.
