The Assistant Manager is an integral part of The Buttery management team. Working hand in hand with the General Manager, the Assistant Manager is committed to helping to lead our team, build our hospitality culture, grow our brand, drive sales, and operate a profitable restaurant, all while providing delicious food and beverages made from scratch for our guests. As a member of the management team at Malvern Buttery, the Assistant Manager will be a part of a team that provides healthy challenges for a leader and facilitates career growth and development.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Team Management: Oversee daily store and cafe operations, manage and motivate the team, and ensure a positive and productive work environment.
- MOD: manager on duty shifts when General Manager is absent.
- Customer Service Excellence: Maintain high standards of customer service, addressing customer inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
- Operational Efficiency: Monitor and improve operational processes, including inventory management, order accuracy, and food and beverage preparation.
- Staff Training and Development: Train new employees, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide ongoing coaching and support to team members.
- Financial Management: Monitor store budget and payroll including sales, COG, labor and expenses, and take corrective action as necessary to meet sales and profitability objections.
- Labor and Employee Scheduling: Create associate schedules to ensure high efficiency, labor within budget and an excellent customer experience.
- Merchandising and Product: Assists with merchandising and display of products and coordinate sales promotion activities and prepare merchandise displays.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and safe environment for customers and staff.
- Menu Development: Collaborate with the kitchen team to develop and refine menu offerings, keeping up with industry trends and customer preferences.
- Marketing and Promotions: Works with the General Manager and Social Media Manager to implement marketing strategies to attract and retain customers, including social media promotions, events, and special offers.
- Problem-Solving: Address operational challenges and implement effective solutions to enhance the cafe’s performance.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 2 years or more as a cafe or coffee shop manager is essential. Strong background in the food and beverage industry is required.
- Leadership Skills: Exceptional leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
- Customer Service: Outstanding customer service skills with a commitment to providing a top-notch customer experience.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, capable of managing various tasks simultaneously.
- Financial Acumen: Solid understanding of financial management, including budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting.
- Adaptability: Flexible and adaptable to changing situations and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to effectively interact with customers, staff, and suppliers.
- Passion for Quality: A genuine passion for high-quality food, beverages, and customer service.
