Full-time Pastry Cook position AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY at iSwii by Angry Birds Café, the first themed retail and café experience of its kind in the world. We are located in Downtown Flushing at the new and innovative Tangram Mall’s Food Hall and are searching for dedicated, team-oriented, inventive, and enthusiastic candidates with pastry/bakery experience to join our flock for our high-flying grand opening in May!
Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the daily production of ALL dessert items, including but not limited to: pastries, ice creams, viennoisserie, pies, cookies, and cakes.
- Collaborating with the executive chef, head pastry chef, and the rest of the culinary team to plan menus and design new pastries.
- Demonstrating improvisational ability and flexibility in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Executing large pastry orders for catered events and accommodating special or unanticipated requests.
- Creating enticing confectionery decorations and delicious pastry fillings, as well as keeping abreast of new pastry baking techniques.
- Accurately measuring and combining ingredients using various equipment and methods including mixers, heat sources, etc.; familiarity with both metric and imperial measurement systems and converting quantities between them.
- Applying classic pastry baking techniques when preparing traditional pastries.
- Adding novel, creative, and delicious pastry items to the existing selection based on seasonal changes and customer demand.
- Crafting artful and creative pastries/deserts featuring Angry Birds designs and theming and maintaining pastry design alignment with Rovio brand standards.
- Regularly monitoring and performing maintenance and upkeep procedures for specialized pastry baking tools and equipment.
- Operate and sanitize all pastry baking tools and equipment correctly and safely.
- Regularly monitor and count inventory of ingredients for production.
- Ensuring station and overall kitchen organization and cleanliness at all times.
- Maintaining food safety standards by properly labeling, storing, and dating products, rotating ingredients, monitoring temperatures, etc.
- Accepting, checking, and putting away deliveries.
Qualifications:
- A genuine, long-standing passion for and knowledge of food, pastries, and the culinary arts.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Associate degree in baking and pastry arts, or similar preferred.
- 2 or more years’ work experience as a pastry cook or similar.
- Advanced knowledge of traditional pastry baking techniques.
- Creative ability in designing, decorating, and filling confectionery.
- In-depth knowledge of New York State food industry health and safety regulations.
- Sense of urgency and time-management skills.
- Eye for detail and aesthetic awareness.
- Open availability must be able to work weekends and some holidays.
- No major physical restrictions, must be able to lift 50+ lbs. without issue and work on feet for entire 8+ hour work days.
