The Server Captain’s primary goal will be to ensure high-quality service and a pleasant dining experience for all guests. Captains must have good communication skills, be detail-oriented, and able to lead the FOH team in an exemplary manner. Captains will inform and train staff on any new information, ensure smooth service, and delegate tasks to all FOH team members. Captains will report directly to the General Manager and be an essential part of the leadership team at Golden Diner.
Responsibilities:
- Server responsibilities
- Serve guests in designated dining area(s) during service
- Understand and memorize food and beverage menu
- Present restaurant menus and help customers select food/beverages (guide guests through the menu, answering any questions and making recommendations for complementary products)
- Input all orders in the POS system and ensure they are served correctly in a timely manner
- Issue bills and accept payments
- Day-to-day
- Inform and train staff on new information (specials, cocktails, wines, 86’d items, etc.)
- Delegate and enforce proper and timely floor set-up and close-out duties
- Maintain cleanliness of the restaurant throughout all of service. Ensure all DOH protocols and safety regulations are followed, communicated, and adhered to by FOH team.
- Coach FOH team on efficiency and service etiquette, when necessary
- Keep tabs on FOH team’s clock in and clock out times to manage breaks
- Tend to guests’ requests, questions, and complaints. Escalate to Manage on Duty as needed.
- Ensure beverage consistency
- Closeout register and ensure that cash is balanced daily
- Work closely with General Manager & Leadership team
- Align on pre-shift notes and FOH team lineup
- Keep General Manager up-to-date on daily inventory and organization of product, using inventory and par sheets
- When FOH team member calls out, help find substitutes and discuss solutions for smooth service
- Notify General Manager of any broken equipment or unsafe environments
- Attend weekly FOH leadership team meetings
- Send out EOD (end of day) notes at the end of your shift
- Lead FOH team to maintain high standard of hospitality and service
Skills & Requirements:
- Availability on weekends is a must, as well as on holidays when the restaurant is open
- Must have good supervisory, teaching, and motivational skills—considerate, patient, and helpful to fellow teammates
- Embody great hospitality and excellent service attitude, while maintaining professionalism
- Able to work under pressure and maintain calm and efficiency during busy hours, while maintaining attention to detail
- Possess high work ethics and morals
- Able to stay on feet throughout scheduled shift and to lift heavy objects such as kegs, bus bins, or crates of food
