The Paramount Group is looking for a Greenhouse Manager!!

Description
: The greenhouse manager will work closely with the Chief Culinary Officer to oversee the daily operations of our greenhouse and surrounding gardens, managing all tasks. The desired candidate should have a genuine interest in plants, working with chefs and in hospitality, superb communication and customer service skills, and motivation to work independently.  

Responsibilities / Requirements: 

  • Provide daily care to greenhouse plants to include, planting, transplanting, pruning, watering and fertilizing as well as inspections of the facility to ensure the conditions are optimal for the plants and handling any diseases or pests that may appear.
  • Maintenance of the greenhouse structure, care to the wood boxes themselves in oiling and replacing rotting wood, as well as the immediate surroundings.
  • Maintain, clean, and sanitize watering systems, greenhouse facilities and greenhouse supplies.
  • Plan and administer a watering and fertilizing schedule including coordination for weekends and holidays.
  • Keep the greenhouse clean and plants labeled for presentation purposes and public viewing as well as administer tours to guests.
  • Train colleagues in working in the greenhouse, gardening techniques, and how to lead greenhouse tours for guests.
  • In coordination with culinary team, picking daily for catering events and restaurant service as well as organizing and rotating greenhouse product in the coolers.
  • In coordination with purchasing manager, order and organize greenhouse supplies and materials as well as manage deliveries, equipment and plan installation(s) regularities, implement strategies, and keep detailed records as well as gather soil and send out samples for testing (includes computer and record keeping skills).
  • Scout for pests/disease/phenotypic irregularities, implement strategies, and keep detailed records (Computer and record keeping skills).
  • Gather soil and test to identify issues in compound levels of the soil affecting the plants. 
  • In coordination with the Chief Culinary Officer, develop and implement year round planting schedule; starters, seed saving, propagation, etc. and executing the yearly sowing schedule to include seeding, watering, maintaining, thinning, potting-up, fertilizing, and hardening-off of all seedlings.
  • Planning and implementing sustainable practices in heating, electricity, water usage, etc.
  • Explore ways to improve processes for more efficient growth and harvest yields and and make recommendations on fertilizer and potting mediums.
  • Must be comfortable working in a greenhouse, which is kept warm and humid year-round
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must have strong communication, training, management and supervisory skills, as well as knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Other related assignments as necessary.

Experience: 

  • Worked three years in a nursery, farm, or greenhouse. Culinary experience is a plus

Education: 

Associate in greenhouse management, bachelor's in horticulture, plant science, or related field
