We are seeking a dynamic Director of Private Events to join our team at Zuma New York. This pivotal role involves managing event sales for our six Private Dining Rooms, contributing to approximately $7 million in annual sales. The Director will lead the event sales team, ensure exceptional client experiences, and drive revenue growth.
Celebrating 20 years since first opening its doors in London, Zuma is sophisticated twist on the traditional Japanese Izakaya style of informal eating and drinking. Co-founded by Rainer Becker and Arjun Waney in 2002, Zuma has 15 venues globally and 9 seasonal locations.
Featuring modern Japanese cuisine that is authentic but not traditional. The menu showcases a variety of dishes from its three kitchens: the main kitchen, the sushi counter and the robata grill.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Head of Private Events leads and oversees the Private Events Sales team, driving sales and ensuring the delivery of exceptional event experiences. Your primary responsibilities will include developing strategies to build sales, attracting new clients, managing and motivating the events team, and implementing structured processes to enhance efficiency and performance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Lead, manage, and mentor the Private Events team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance
- Oversee the planning and coordination of all private events, ensuring seamless execution and exceptional guest experiences
- Collaborate with chefs and operations leaders to develop and customize event menus and layouts
- Create and maintain structured processes and systems to streamline event planning and execution
- Motivate and develop managers, fostering a positive and productive work environment
- Develop and implement sales strategies to increase private event bookings and revenue
- Identify and attract new clients, leveraging networking and outreach activities
- Monitor and manage event budgets, ensuring cost control and profitability
- Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, updates, and best practices
- Analyze event performance and client feedback to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Zuma’s offerings to effectively promote and sell the venue
- Provide on-site support during major events, addressing any issues or concerns that arise
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor, health, and safety laws
- Operate ethically to protect the image of the company
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested
JOB KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- 3-4 years of experience in event sales and execution, preferably within a restaurant or hotel restaurant environment
- Strong sales acumen with a demonstrated ability to build and grow event revenue
- Excellent leadership and team management skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
- Proficiency in using event management and sales software
- Professional demeanor and appearance, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with team members and stakeholders
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required
