The Server Assistant position at Café Boulud is a pooled-tip service role that works closely with the front-of-house and back-of-house team members. The Server Assistant is responsible for preparing the dining room for service, table maintenance and for delivering all dishes from the kitchen to the appropriate guest in the dining. They will know all of the dishes on the menu and be prepared to answer questions from guests. The Server Assistant is also responsible to prepare and deliver beverages to guests in an efficient and timely manner. They should have the ability to provide the highest standard of service, superior communication and interpersonal skills, exceptions organizational skills and the ability to handle a high-volume environment.
Café Boulud is inspired by Daniel Boulud’s four culinary muses: la tradition, classic French cuisine; la saison, seasonal delicacies; le potager, the vegetable garden; and le voyage, flavors of world cuisine. Having earned three stars in the New York Times as well as a star in the Michelin Guide, Café Boulud is both a destination and a neighborhood gem for casually elegant dining seasonal wine tasting dinners, Sunday brunch and intimate, private events.
Essential Duties:
- Open, close and maintain the dining room and beverage station as needed
- Prepare and maintain bread station and coffee station
- Work closely with servers to contribute to a positive dining experience for guests
- Be knowledgeable of menu items and cuisine
- Maintain table cleanliness and steps of service throughout shift
- Deliver food, beverages and bread to the guests at their table or bar, as needed
- Prepare coffee and espresso orders. Knowledge in coffee is a plus.
- Greet all guests with enthusiasm and friendliness
- Execute on-going, pre- and post-shift side work
- Expedite, as needed
Competencies & Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of experience in a fine dining environment
- General knowledge and interest in food and wine with a desire to learn and grow
- Actively practice food safety procedures
- Able to take direction and complete tasks
- Organizational skills with careful attention to detail
- Pleasant demeanor and professional composure
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Ability to engage guests successfully and build a relationship
- Impeccable grooming as defined by management and dress code
- Knowledge of tableside etiquette in an upscale environment
- Puncual with a strong sense of urgency and work ethic with the ability to multitask
- A warm, compassionate, and team-focused approach
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs if necessary
- Stand for long periods during service

Compensation Details
Compensation: Hourly ($16.00) plus tips
