Job Details

The General Manager of Longman & Eagle is ultimately the caretaker of staff, service, property and guests. This position uses all available information and experience to help coach our staff and fine tune operations. The General Manager motivates staff to a higher level of service and sales. L&E has set expectations for the level of hospitality and knowledge of FOH staff which, ideally, will flourish with proper guidance. 
The General Manager will oversee budgets, labor, and other sales and service related tangibles. They will maintain the tone and vibe as related from PR & marketing.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

Guests

  • Consistently provide a quality product and customer service experience
  • Curate our guest experience by representing us as an ambassador and host
  • Welcome, recognize, and identify guests as appropriate and able
  • Monitor guest appreciation as per gifts (comps) to agreed upon 3% average

Staff

  • Ensure all employees are trained, motivated and empowered to deliver our style of service
  • Recruit, hire and develop employees that possess a positive attitude and values that align with our identity
  • Continuously improve the skills, knowledge and morale of all employees to maintain a fun, warm and contemporary culture
  • Serve as a role model and set a positive example for the entire team in all aspects of business and personnel management
  • Effectively utilize and create training programs from new employee orientation up to and including management training classes
  • Prepare qualified employees for promotion to the next position and continually develop all employees to improve performance; create a culture that promotes from within
  • Evaluate each employee’s performance based on communicated standards and expectations
  • Hold the employees accountable for performance - using progressive disciplinary procedures and setting clear expectations through training and handbooks
  • Oversee all employees files including updating and distributing new hire packets to all employees, filing all disciplinary and termination forms, and ensuring all new hire paperwork is properly completed via Toast Payroll
  • Ensure accuracy of employee profiles in Toast Payroll
  • Employee benefits management in coordination with payroll and benefits administrator.
  • Utilize labor effectively to meet budgets
  • Enforce all labor laws (federal, state and local)

Service

  • Retain (and teach) thorough knowledge of menu and beverage offerings
  • Partner with Executive Chef & oversee Beverage/Bar Managers to implement specials or event related products
  • Oversee development and maintain Steps of Service to ensure the same guest experience for everyone who enters our spaces. 


Finances

  • Maximize financial performance and profit through coordination with ownership
  • Entering bi-weekly payroll, reconciling tips using Toast Tip Manager, adjusting time cards, and tracking any necessary adjustments.
  • Ensure Cash deposits are correct by verifying daily 
  • Oversee bill pay, dictate what needs to be paid to accounting team
  • Participate in monthly P&L meetings
  • Maintain an overall budget, oversee culinary and bar spending/budgets


Property

  • Monitor overall condition of property; work to ensure deficiencies are repaired in a timely fashion 
  • Uphold company food safety, food handling and sanitation requirements to ensure the health and safety of our customers and employees
  • Follow procedures to maintain the safety and security of all employees, customers and company assets (building, cash, equipment, supplies)
  • Submit maintenance requests to the facilities department
  • Maintain contact with facilities department regarding upcoming or impending building maintenance needs
     

Technology

  • Monitor online presence, ensure accuracy
  • Maintain POS systems/Self-managed Toast network
  • Maintain office environment, printer supplies for menu printer

Events

  • Hold weekly meetings with event coordinator
  • Uphold historic seasonal events, create tickets events, curate pop-ups
  • Maintain smooth communication between culinary team and events coordinator, ensure online packages are consistent with current and upcoming menu changes
     

Menu

  • Submit menu changes to design department
  • Ensure upkeep of staff information sources (allergy and ingredient guides)
  • Coordinate special event menus as well as direct booking event menus
  • Ensure menu accuracy in toast

Manager Development

  • Recruiting, Hiring, Training and annual performance evaluations of hourly managers/supervisors, FOH Floor Managers and Beverage Managers
  • Ensure communication between managers & departments is clear, concise, productive and without friction
  • Oversee and schedule weekly meetings between managers and chefs to discuss ongoing goals and projects
  • Help to train and grow managers with most of the non-finance related above responsibilities.

*Some of these responsibilities can/will be delegated to or shared with an AGM or de facto office manager—but ultimately the buck stops with the GM and thusly they are ultimately responsible for the above and other minutiae associated with the smooth operations of the restaurant, property and team.  

*Must be able to lift 40 lbs and stand for extended periods of time
