THIS IS A FULL TIME ROLE IN OUR MIDDLETOWN, NY FACILITY.

Part of Abe’s Vegan Muffins, Pearl River Pastry, is a leading all-natural dessert manufacturer supplying delicious products to thousands of stores and food establishments nationwide, is seeking a hands-on Production Pastry Chef to lead its production team. 

The Production Pastry Chef is responsible for overseeing the production of baked goods and desserts, ensuring they are executed according to company recipes and processes, while meeting production, quality, and safety objectives. This role requires strong leadership skills, as well as excellent culinary and organizational abilities. The Production Pastry Chef will be expected to regularly audit processes and procedures for continuous growth and improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of pastry production experience
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Lead by example to ensure safe work practices are followed.
  • Provide consistent follow-up ensuring proper procedures are followed and documented.
  • Must monitor and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's)
  • Follow schedule and ensure work assignments are completed to quality and safety specifications.
  • Train employees, offer praise and accountability, address complaints and resolve problems, and evaluate performance.
  • Oversee and review all required paperwork, reports, and documentation.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, safety standards and quality of products.
  • Work collaboratively with peer department leaders: Quality, Packaging, Maintenance, and Warehouse.
  • Ensure proper up-keep of equipment; address and resolve problems, initiate work orders for repairs.

Experience:

  • Culinary Degree.
  • 3+ years of successful, hands on, leadership experience within a large pastry production environment
  • Bi-lingual a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor both hourly production and salaried associates.
  • Good working knowledge of pastry production equipment such as mixers, ovens, and packaging equipment.
  • Working knowledge of process controls and industry standards.
  • Well versed in food safety, allergen, and other compliance requirements of a bakery production facility.
  • Willingness and ability to resolve problems.
  • Positive and professional communication and customer service skills. Ensure capabilities to meet market needs and support profitable growth of the products produced by the facility.
  • Competent with computers – accustomed to working in an MS Office environment and competent in Excel.
  • Willingness and ability to work hours as required.
  • Good Organization and Time Management Skills

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • The following physical requirements must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.  The work environment requires tolerance to variations in temperature, wet conditions in washroom area, exposure to food products, and manufacturing equipment that includes a variety of controls and mechanisms.
  • Ability to:
    • Manipulate equipment utilizing manual dexterity.
    • Stand, walk, squat, and sit for long periods of time.
    • Understand written and verbal instructions.
    • Push and lift items with varying degrees of weight. 
    • Perform repetitive motion movements with upper extremities.

Pay:

The pay range for this position is $60,000-$70,000 plus discretionary bonus based on performance. Abe’s Vegan Muffins takes into consideration a wide range of factors in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Compensation: Salary ($60,000.00 - $70,000.00)
