We are currently seeking full time Head Sommelier to join our Hudson Yards team!

Position Summary:

The Head Sommelier is responsible for the management of the wine and beverage program.  The Head Sommelier will partner with the Restaurant Director and the Beverage Director and support operational activities and ensure high quality of service. 

 Key Responsibilities and duties

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the restaurant wine and beverage program, inclusive of ordering, inventory, organization and cost management;
  • Develop and execute wine and beverage training programs for all employees to improve their knowledge of wine tasting and wine service;
  • Support the management team with ensuring a state-of-the-art service delivery;
  • Assist with daily operational duties, inclusive of reporting and opening/closing procedures;
  • Coordinate restaurant front of house actions, being responsible for a smooth and effective collaboration across staff and exceeding guests’ expectations;
  • Lead by example to promote a positive and professional team environment that fosters trust, integrity and superior performance standards;
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and guidance to service team members to ensure ongoing development, engagement and motivation
  • Ensure all team members adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Greet and welcome guests in a professional manner and positive attitude
  • Manage eventual clients’ complaints exceeding their expectations
  • Oversee and proactively deal with guest requests and complaints;
  • Maintain a clean work environment.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in the hospitality industry in a sommelier role.
  • Previous experience in fine dining preferred
  • Proven knowledge of food and beverage pairings;
  • Solid understanding of pricing, budgets and cost management;
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken. Second language preferred.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Professional grooming and appearance;
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, people-management skills;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs which includes evenings, weekends and holidays;
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs

The bi-level space is home to Milos Hudson Yards, featuring an open kitchen, private dining rooms, walls of glass overlooking the Hudson River, and a spectacular outdoor terrace.Unique design elements include glass-enclosed seafood coolers, putting yourcatch on display, and an expansive international wine collection visible behind the bar.

Assyrtiko Wine Bar is a new expression of the Milos brand. Residing on its own level within the restaurant, we feature Greek wines by the glass and bottle, signature and unique small format cuisine, and a full spirits program. During the day, a Greek yogurt bar, made to order food, proprietary coffee, and pastries are available for dine-in or to-go. Signature packaged ingredients such as olive oil, honey and sea salts are available for those who wish to experience Milos quality any time, anywhere.
