We are seeking a dynamic General Manager to lead the operations of Café Mado and Laurel Bakery, the two newest establishments from Redwood Hospitality, the group behind Oxalis and Place des Fêtes. Situated in the space of the Michelin-starred former Oxalis, Café Mado offers a blend of grab and go coffee and artisinal pastries in the morning and seated cafe dining in the afternoon, while Laurel Bakery is serves its artisanal baked goods and coffee for retail only. This role is perfect for a leader passionate about fostering community, excellence in service, and a love for culinary innovation.

Position Overview

This pivotal role is not just about managing day-to-day operations; it's about embodying the spirit of hospitality that Redwood is known for. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a passion for excellence, an expert in multitasking and operational efficiency, and a champion for creating exceptional guest experiences.

Responsibilities:

Operational Oversight
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of Laurel Bakery and the all-day cafe, ensuring the highest standards of service, quality, and efficiency.
  • Manage inventory, procurement, and supply chain logistics to optimize cost and ensure the availability of high-quality ingredients and materials.
  • Implement and maintain robust systems for order processing, delivery, and customer service, with a focus on scalability and customer satisfaction.

Strategic Management
  • Develop and implement strategies for operational excellence, revenue growth, and brand enhancement across both locations.
  • Ensure the seamless integration of the bakery's wholesale operations with the cafe's dining and delivery services, creating a cohesive brand experience.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.

Team Leadership
  • Provide leadership and direction to the cafes' floor manager, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Recruit, train, and develop staff, ensuring a high level of expertise, motivation, and performance across all roles.
  • Cultivate a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation, feedback, and personal growth.

Financial Management
  • Prepare and manage budgets, financial reports, and forecasts, ensuring the profitability and financial health of both ventures.
  • Implement effective cost-control measures and financial strategies to maximize revenue and minimize expenses.

Customer Experience
  • Champion the delivery of outstanding guest experiences, from the quality of food and beverages to the ambiance and customer service.
  • Actively engage with guests to gather feedback, resolve issues, and foster a loyal customer base.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a general management role within the hospitality industry, preferably with experience managing multiple locations or diverse food service operations.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team.
  • Excellent organizational, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to high standards of quality, service, and operational excellence.
  • Knowledge of the Brooklyn dining scene and the hospitality industry's latest trends and best practices is a plus.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Salary ($80,000.00 - $92,000.00)

As Oxalis embarks on a new chapter, Café Mado will open in its place, promising to continue the tradition of excellence that has become synonymous with Redwood Hospitality. Our location is a stone’s throw away from some of Brooklyn’s most beloved landmarks, including the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and Prospect Park. Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor exploring the charms of Brooklyn, Café Mado is your perfect pit stop for a morning coffee, a leisurely lunch, or a sweet treat.

Cafe Mado will welcome the day with freshly brewed coffee with a selection of fine pastries from our newly opened Laurel Bakery, along with breakfast sandwiches prepared for those on the go. As the day unfolds, our backyard atrium opens for a serene spot for a seated lunch, offering a casual, seasonal menu.
