The result of a couple guys who love good food and cold drinks, Duke's Grocery is a neighborhood pub and supper spot with locations in the Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, and Navy Yard areas of Washington, D.C., with a Duke's Counter sister location in Woodley Park / National Zoo.
The idea is simple: create a fun spot that our friends (you!) can come in anytime and have a fulfilling meal, a tasty drink and great time in an atmosphere that is unpretentious and laid back. Tuck in, drink up, and enjoy!
We're currently gearing up to reopen our orginal location in Dupont which has been getting a facelift the past year.
General Manager Position
At Duke’s Grocery, we’re on the hunt for hospitality professionals who take pride in creating not only an unforgettable dining experience but also a great place to work. We want someone who’s enthusiastic, quick on their feet, solution-oriented, an overcommunicator, and most importantly, a motivating leader. We believe in enjoying coming to work and becoming an integral part of the neighborhoods we serve.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor and empower our amazing front and back of house staff.
- Oversee day-to-day restaurant operations and guest relations with a smile.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Keep our FOH & BOH operations running smoothly to the company’s standards.
- Hold the team accountable while sticking to our operational procedures.
- Use financial indicators to measure and boost productivity.
- Hire, train, schedule, and develop staff to meet team and business needs.
- Respond to all guest and staff communications/feedback promptly and effectively.
- Master the use of all necessary tools, utensils, equipment, and software (e.g., restaurant management software).
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of General Manager experience in a high-energy neighborhood restaurant with significant private event experience: 200-400 covers per day, $3-6M+ in annual sales.
- Flexible work schedule (including weekends for brunch, lunch, and dinner) and reliable transportation.
- Strong leadership and motivational skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Financial savvy to analyze and interpret financial data.
- Proficiency with restaurant management software and other relevant tools.
- Knowledge of wine, beer, and spirits to impress our guests.
