We’re currently recruiting for our opening team. We are looking for an experienced Captain.
The CAPTAIN position at Seahorse NYC is a pooled-tip service role that focuses on sales and service of food and beverage, which is the primary guest-facing role throughout the dining experience. Essential Duties of a Captain at Seahorse New York include communicating menu information to guests, taking orders and communicating those orders to the Back of House team, and coordinating with Back Servers and Front of House Hourly positions for general maintenance of the Dining Room.
This staff member coordinates with the Back Server Staff, Sommeliers, and Expediters to conduct Service as direct reports to FOH management.
CAPTAIN Essential Duties
❖ Oversee and guide guest’s complete dining and restaurant experience
❖ Provide knowledgeable, approachable, efficient, energetic, and thoughtful service at all times
❖ Full knowledge of food and beverage menu items, including the major components of a dish/drink; this may include ingredients and their source, simple descriptions of unfamiliar ingredients, preparation, and/or execution of correct food and beverage service
❖ Adhere to all company service standards and protocols
❖ Confident and correct use of POS system for order entry and payment processing
❖ Assist in setting up the restaurant for service and breaking down at the end of the shift
❖ Ensure food and beverage arrive to guests quickly and correctly; and confirming guest satisfaction
❖ Ensure proper table maintenance, including water service, pre-bussing, etc.
❖ Adeptly provide tableside service, including the use and maintenance of in-table grills, and the instruction to guests on their safe and effective use.
❖ Ensure guests are charged correctly and receive proof of payment in a timely manner
❖ Communicate respectfully with chefs (and kitchen team) as necessary
❖ Support team members in the completion of their duties to ensure the satisfaction of all guests before, during and after service
❖ Engage management for any guest issue or complaint
❖ Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of service tools and service areas
❖ Follow mandated safety and sanitation procedures at all times
❖ Stocking and preparing service-related items
❖ Adhere to grooming and dress code standards
❖ Other General Maintenance and food service tasks as Assigned
Skills & Requirements
❖ Minimum 2 years serving experience in a high-volume environment
❖ Strong food and beverage knowledge and a passion for the service industry
❖ Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and a collaborative attitude
❖ Must possess exceptional work ethic, strong attention to detail, and a collaborative attitude
❖ Receptive to constructive criticism and performance feedback
❖ Ability to demonstrate quick thinking and adaptability in a constantly changing environment
❖ Basic food and wine knowledge preferred
The physical demands for this position are seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, frequently lifting up to 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing, for 4 to 8 hours, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours.
